Just a few questions about jetting and fuel range... 2005 fe550 jd jet kit all per instructions using the blue needle fuel screw 2 out no leak jet or leak jet adjustment. went to northern California had my 4 gallon tank on went on a long ds ride put about 30 in town miles on the bike hit the freeway for 85-90 miles stopped to fill up before I hit the woods and put in over 3 gallons? Does this seam right I am running 15-42 on the gearing trials rear tire and front knobby. Also found on the way back that from 1/8-1/4 throttle the bike has a slight bog and even coughed while on/ off the throttle once or twice. I did change the spark plug before I left and to me it seamed a bit on the rich side. I did mess with the fuel screw a bit on the way home but it didn't seam to make a difference epithet way. I was thinking of going to the red needle sice the temps outside are coming up.

What do you guys get for rang on freeway @65?

On the trails I had pry 50-70 miles of dirt pry burnt a hair over 1 gallon.

yes

I am running 15-42 on the gearing

now it went from bad to awful! :D :D

if it is bogging try raising the needle a clip and also get mean with the pilot screw and go a 1/2 then a whole turn in both directions.

get mean dude!  none o that gibba gabba!!!!!!

you know it makes sense!

While your fuel mileage could be better, it's not really too bad.

I have found that at least with my KTM RFS 540 and 565 engines that the JD red needle works better than the blue needle under all conditions. The blue needle always gave my bikes a rich low speed/off idle hesitation which went away after replacement with the red needle.

I seem to get a pretty consistent 40 miles per US gallon no matter what kind of riding I do.

40mpg x 2.8 gallons =112 theoretical fuel range.

Thanks for the input I'll go to red needle..

What's wrong with 15/42 gearing I don't like to ringing the bikes neck for hours on the freeway plus with the rekluse z/start pro I can hit nasty single track all day.. Love this bike

have you heard of the placebo effect?

(check it out on google and then lie and say yes)

what were the last words of sid vicious in the sex pistols last concert?

ever had that feeling? [youtube:149xjkj1]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbwjWU26e9Y[/youtube:149xjkj1] 59.22

While I can't agree or disagree with Taffy's assessment of the JD Kit, I can absolutely confirm that he knows jetting. I have one of his kits in my '07 650, and it starts reliably at all temps. It makes huge power with no bogging anywhere (after bike is reasonably warm.) Plus, I get 50 - 55 mpg, even with enthusiastic throttle use.

I'm a wrenchin' retard, but I can read, so I just bought his kit and followed his instructions.

15/42 is fine for those who ride on the road a lot i guess? I would think you would be dulling the performance of the 550 engine for everything else though, maybe this is the idea? Could your bike be using more fuel because you are making it labour when it could be revving free and happy with more gearing?

Sorry 15/48 gearing i was mistaken

Also I switched to the red needle 5th from top and 2 turns out on the air screw seams to be a lot better. I put the blue needle in end of this winter when it was in the 30s the red needle is recommended for 50 degrees and up.

I'm heading out for a ds ride tomorrow so we will see the overal difference
