you're welcome brendan. please check out flight costs for this august as an indicator. you'll find midweek to midweek are cheapest which should actually suit you!

maybe some other NA boys will indicate their interest sometime? bobzilla? is that you? no it was a mouse i heard!

i think when we're older this 'trivial travel' may be a thing of the past.....

the reason we aren't going this year is because the guy that organises the trail tours around the island is booked up at that time. after the TT (held in the first week of june) the manx gp week is the next busiest and so we had to book well ahead. let's be honest, if it's as good as i say then it'll be busy and everything is at a bit-of-a-premium.

so we need to tread lightly and save money where we can. that's the beauty of moab et al. it's a good price and we must do the same!

Taffy

i've jacked in organising this for personal reasons. that and the fact that i hope to be in the USA either the month before. during. or after. all have played a part.

another time hey?

Taffy

Never you mind Brendan.

(Cheers for letting us know Taf).

Now; it's time for someone else to step into Taffy's shoes and sort this out.

I'm definately going but I have no idea what to do or how to do it.

Is there someone out there who has sorted this before and can / will help.

Perhaps the first thing is to state intent. Do you want to go...

I do & that makes 1.

ady handed it to me james at the beginning of the year. he's just gomne through major expansion at work and wanted to dedicate himself to it. he certainly knows all about how too.....he's been out there 4 times with the same trail tour leader.

Talk to me..I've done this knd of thing into Europe numerous times. From 30+ bikes carried over in Artic trucks, flights, courtesy cars, lodgings to 3 bikes in the back of a van and camping!!
I've als got contacts on the island and I'm pretty sure that Richard is the guy who's led some of the LARF (my other forum) boys around the island.
I've got a Sprinter that can carry 3 bikes and have a spare Berg available, the van can tow a trailer with 3 more bikes on if need be.

This is a trip to The Ardeche in 2005:

Spikehammer....sounds good. Are you up for organising this???

I suppose we need to get a list of interested people / standard of riding / and a cut off date so this doesn't just drift on. Also I guess IOM needs to be booked well in advance.

So, I'm in - 501 FE 02 - Novice rider but up for a laugh.

i think you need to contact ady because within what you'd call 'his group' you have

steve gruntenberg
his brother
ady
ady's best mate
stuart diixon all on huseys

brookster
gix

myself i hope
scouser
james arkley123
cypher will let us know????
keiran (who lives there)
kez (never here anymore so can you say yes still?)
spikehammer

but why not make it open to the road riders?????
the roads are fantastic and one of the roads is the most famous piece of road in the world.

i think you could double numbers this way.

Taffy

Ady...are you out there.

Spike...looks like we'll be needing your artic.

Excuse my ignorance, but why would we choose the MGP August over the TT June??

Do we need a cut off date to book B&B's & ferry's by. Perhaps that would focus us on getting something concrete confirmed.

the trail tour guides premises have already been provisionally booked for next year (54 weeks time). he can accomodate 10 and the S-i-L about 1-mile awway can take 6-8. crag mooar has a small bar by now and a pool table. the pub is rocking and just 3/4 mile away. its in foxwood which is a small rural village at the epicentre of the island and 2 miles from the TT course at ballacraine.

the idea is that those that want to go on an organised tour go with the guide. those that know their way around the trails (as i do) just go off and do the saem thing but a bit cheaper. crag mooar's hospitality is absolutely first class with mid-afternoon tea that will fill you like a meal. the romms are mint althouygh i shared with cypher so you know....!

nice people run the place. i think we could pitch a tent within 1/4 mile of CM as well.

as for the why the manx gp week? well, transport is easier and cheaper, the weather is better, the people that go aren't teenagers out of their head on alcohol but real bikers. not sure why i'm explaining this again because it's all in the opening post of this thread. people book accomodation 2 years ahead for the TT.

the racing is awesome and the riders are doing 120mph laps. sure you don't know them but then who would you know at the TT? i doubt that you or anyone is going to be glue to their radio set worrying about who the leader is? most people are happy to SLEEP between laps around the course!

i've been to both and if it was close as a kid its no contest now....

i knew colin quite well in a racing sense. the mighty atom!

nice guy, brilliant rider. top mechanic!

I'm still here, just waiting for my bike to be registered. Dont post much but i do visit when i get the chance, which hasnt been much lately.

pull your finger out kez!

message to spike and arkley: it was left to me to sort the cost of a van on the ferry but i don't have a van to measure so because they are specific about a make and model even i stopped at that point.

if you are going to make this work you need to decide if you want to stay at crag mooar or go completely independant. i would make it over by hook or by crook if you should continue but all along i would have said i can lead tours no problem and could put any competent map reader onto a similar route.

so renting out a bungalow for the week etc would be my prefered option. my mate has just come back from a week out there for the manx and i'kll ask him the cost. i think he was around port erin which is very "away from it all".

regards

Taffy

Never having been on one of these, I have no idea how it all works - who or what the tours are etc. I'm willing to help but someone needs to advise / co-ordinate. (Taffy has already said he can't organise this time).

Thanks Taffy for your comments - sounds like a good idea (the bungalow) how many does it sleep.

So surely the first & main thing is to identify who is definately up for it & what level they ride at. How they get there is secondary?

Or am I missing the whole point...is it just whoever turns up by whatever means at the agreed dates and then we sort it from there??

I'm in. Novice FE501 but up for a laugh.

Can I come? I can get the time off! And I know I will get a machine ready! If my Berg is U/S I got my Harley!!!!!

OK - So all previous posts remain..need to confirm bookings.

1/ Arkley (Novice 501FE 02)
2/ Scouser (??501FE 99)
3/ ?????

Once we get to 10 for sures, I'll start trying to organise, but I will need some help.
Taf mentioned provisional bookings above - I'll look into, but we need to get this going fairly fast as these things do tend to get all booked up (ferry's etc).

ill come if i can borrow (ill pay the owner) a bike of some description as mine is a mx.
it doesnt have to be a berg

pleeeeeeeeeeeze :D
