Hey

I just took the bike for the first time out. rode it for about an hour in 1st-2nd gear. back home I notice this strange stain on the front of the engine (please see attached pictures).

I admit I didn't look at it before my first ride , and have no idea where this stain came from. I tried to wash it but the location is obviously too complicated to get too.

Attached are some pictures of the area. I still have a 10 days before my warranty expires but I would like to make sure there is a problem before I drive all the way down there.

Thanks a lot

Mati

No, not normal. Clean off the area with degreaser, then check the torque on the clutch cover bolts. Give her another good ride and let us know how it goes.

It"s not coming from the breather hose on top of the rocker cover is it? Check the clamps. Sometimes the rubber gets pourous over time and will leak (yes I know it's new, but the part could be a few years old).

Thank you for your answer.

I have to apologize and ask what is the Rocker cover you talked about . I couldn't find it on any manual. I thought it might be what's shown in this picture but was not sure

I will go tomorrow and clean the area, check the clutch and let it run for a while (don't think I'll be able to take it for a spin tomorrow)

Thanks again

Rocker cover (valve cover). The very top of the motor. Breather hose. 2 hoses joining into one, going from the motor to the airbox (frame).

Rocker cover breather tube
These can be loose and be the cause of the front left corner oil dribble! Remove spigot,
clean both threads and use a gasket fluid before tightening back in. Taken from the Owner's Doc

I think I'll keep an eye on it and try to ride it again soon and see if anything new pups up.

Hopefully it wont!

thanks

Mati,

Pull the tank off and take off the 2 into one breather on top of the motor to the frame back bone.

Take the hose where it attaches to the motor and roll it between your fingers and look for cracks like Berger said. The exhaust side of the breather is the side that cracks and leaks. I have replaced a few of these on my 04, the rubber isn't that great to begin with.

If there are cracks in the rubber and it feels stiff, then you've found your problem. The joint you bought it from should replace the part for you.

When you put the new one on, make sure the spigots and the rubber are clean and dry, tighten the hose clamps enough to seal it, but not too tight that it will cut into the rubber.

On my 650 the hose clamps had a tight spot when close to tight, but allowed oil to leak. Need a bit of fiddling to get the right compression on the clamp. When it feels tight with a screwdriver or socket, see if you can move it or the hose. If so, tighten a bit more.

Did it today - everything looks normal

How much can that part cost if I had to do it by my self in the future?
