Hey guys. I've been eyeballing this bike for quite some time now. It has come up on Craigslist several times in about the last year. This is the bike I have wanted since I read the test of an '02 model in Dirt Bike back in ...well... '02! lol.
So what do the you all think? Good deal? Okay? Not so good? Thanks.

Hey brucifer,

give us some idea of what it's going to cost so we can make an educated decision ! :D

Looks the part but looks can be deceiving. Find out how often the oil/filter was changed & what oil was used. Look for quick answers from someone who should have been changing them regularly!

Apart from that, good luck man.

Well, cash value, he wants $2000.00 USD. His ad says he'll deliver to the Sacramento area, but it will still cost me about $250-$300.00 to pick it up from there.
So, $2300.00 if regular maintenance and oil changes have been performed?

all the updates done to the motor rebuilt by NMS
i would ask him just exactly what was done. "all the updates" has different meanings to different people.
as one who has an early '02 650 fx, i can tell you its a beast, but the power comes at a price. and the '01 has the most problems of all of them. just what do you plan to do with it?

Hi Ned. What I plan to do with it, is ride it in the woods, everywhere I currently ride my '01 XR650R. There's a variety of terrain from tight first gear trails to more open logging roads.

when i got my fx, the suspension was way too stiff for the rocks we have on the trail. the problem is not in the springs, but the valving. especially the base valve. softening up the base valve helped a lot, but it is still too stiff and i'm too lazy to do the shock and the midvalve. it works ok if you ride it aggressively. but it just wears this old man out. i haven't found a rear tire that grips when you grab a lot of throttle. it just spins.
again, a lot depends on just what was done to the bike as to whether or not its worth the asking price.
they need new cam gear, double counterbalance bearings, sm14 starter, cam machining to accept the newer style decomp, upgraded rockers, and help from a pro welder if the back of the case is cracked. this is prolly husaberg's most maintenance intensive model.
but fun.

Hey brucifer, Have you ever checked out MotoExotica in Vacaville? Dan has a real nice 2005 FE450 on the showroom now for $2900. Very nice condition. If I didnt just buy a new Husky, I would be all over it.
I have also seen that bike on Craigslist for awhile. The other post have said it all.

Thanks again Ned. I keep forgetting about the case cracking issue on the '01s. I already have one bike with a cracked case, and if the 650 isn't cracked now it probably will be at some point. I'll probably give this one a pass.

danielsfc501, No I haven't seen the 450 at MotoExotica. I have checked out their website a few times though.
There's actually an '06 FE450 on the Sacramento Craigslist for $2900.00 as well. Looks pretty nice, but as a rule, I'm a big-block guy, I love the bottom end torque that is only available with lots of ccs. But there's always exceptions to rules. Maybe the 450 would be the shiznit. :)

Here's a thought, Maybe I could build the FC470 into a killer woods bike. What do you guys think? It would be light as heck, and I'm sure have more than enough power. Maybe change out the transmission for an FE? Am I on crack? Seriously, whadaya guys think?
