Want some input from my Husaberg friends.
I brought my bike in to my friends shop to see why the battery was draining and a tuneup--it has now been in for 30+ days and still not done :( Is this normal time for Husabergs??? THey said it's an exotic bike and that the parts are hard to find. THe stator was bad and they needed to order one, but come on, 30+ days! Is this what you all go through?
THanks for your comments.

Skinny,

If your shop is having so much trouble getting parts, why don't you get a list of what they need and contact MotoXotica to see if they have it in stock, or any other Husaberg dealer if thats what it takes.

I think your shop is pulling your leg about getting parts for your "exotic" bike. Are they even a Husaberg dealer?

Good luck.

unless they are REAL hard parts to come buy, like the cases or cylinder, possibly 30 days, But, I second what Ossman said, find out what they say is wrong and get the parts from MOTOXOTICA. 30 days for "tune up" parts and a stator is just a wee bit long.....

RE: Re: Is a month in the shop right???

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought so. This shop is a very capibale shop. The owner--a friend sort of, was a factory wrench for team Yamaha a couple of years back so I know he is good, as well as, the people that work there. the funny thing is--I gave them the number to Motox and the web info for here and Husaberg. Still they called Eric's of Pasadena--which I don't like because they seem arrogant and over priced...$70.00 for wheel bearings :( So I have no idea what to think. I guess they think I'm a **** or something and my Husaberg can take a back seat to the sweet Jap bikes that run through the shop. Oh welll, live and learn.

RE: Re: Is a month in the shop right???

THe sorry part is; it's been a month to just (almost fix) the elec, they haven't started the tune up yet. Jeeezz if I need parts for that--it will take another month or so...oh man :0

RE: Re: Is a month in the shop right???

first, buy the wheel bearings from a local bearing shop, not the dealer, and it sounds as if you will have to do the leg work yourself. call motoxotica get the parts you need take them to them and tell them you would like it done in a reasonable amount of time or you will take your business elsewhere. or.... you could learn to do the tune up yourself, it is not hard and the berg motors are easy to work on...

in fact there are a few very long and embarrassing threads that I started a few years ago regarding stator replacement and valve adjustment on my 98 fe600...

just search my name and 98 fe600

skinnyberg It is very unlikely you need a stator if the bike ran when you took it in.
In 27yrs I have never seen the lighting side of the sem stator fail.

I Have and on more than a single occasion.
I suppose such is per capita as I have seen many SEM stators.

You guys are funny and thanks for the help. Anyway you look at it--it's not right if you ask me. Good god, you could ship my bike to Sweden and back by now to get it fixed

Hi Skinnyberg
Can't you just use the bike until the spares are in? (Least during day time) since it was running when it went in for repair and tuning? And meantime find out how to tune the the bike on this site your self?

Regards
Thor

Called today and found out that Erics messed up and sent the wrong parts. They called Motox and they helped them out and sent parts that were needed. now most of it is done and are waiting on a part from Canada (electrical relay (?), and will be done soon. I feel better now. I guess it was all the parts going around and being wrong that held things up. You guys are right--next time I will chase the parts down (wiht your help of course), and will make time to do my own work. I've been so busy I've no time to work on it and thought maybe, just maybe a shop copuld do it for me D-oh!

Hi,
Good luck with getting your bike back, unfortunately we don't have a lot of choices in So Cal. I have taken my bike to both Z-racing and to Eric's and I find both of them to know their stuff. I don't think you should take your bike to your local shop due to the increased risk of miscommunication when diagnosing and ordering parts. At least go to an open minded KTM shop as they will have seen many of the same components before. Most of the time I wrench myself and I have a 99 FE 501, which If I recall it right is almost the same model as yours. Eric's is old school and will put everything back together by the book, w/o any real input on modifications etc. I haven't needed that many parts over the years as my bike has been reliable, it even starts on the button until it gets real hot.
Most of my fiddlings has been with suspension and carburation on top of general service.
I have used the forum on this site to wade me through most issues I have come across.

If you have some questions or want to compare some notes you can pm me.
