Iridium or not?

Hi guys!

Wanted to ask a quick question. It's time for me to change the spark plug on my 650 since I haven't changed it since I bought it. I was thinking about getting an Iridium plug. The NGK DCR8EIX is easy for me to acquire since a local shop keeps it on stock. What do you say, is it good, take another brand, or go for normal plug?

Cheers, Tom

Hi

Can't notice the difference, but maybe it's just me :D

I also use the iridium some times ... just in case it's better and I can't tell

Well on my Yamaha it did make a noticeable difference, not too much though but it also make it harder to start after stalling. It is said that Iridium takes less electricity to make a spark, maybe it will help the e-start a bit. That's what I'm hoping.

Don't know about easier starting but Iridium plugs will last 2-3 times longer than standard plugs so, in that context they're a good buy. JMO

far stronger spark, just go look at the thermal image photos.

trouble is, a **** mixture and poor timing is just that! in normal running they are superior but someone who can't get their bike running isn't going to get it running because they put an Iridium in it.

anyway, Denso is the better plug because (IMHO) it rests somewhere between the NGK 8 and 9 which is perfect.

Thanks guys for the opinions !

Do you happen to know the part number for the Denso plug, Taffy?

Cheers, Tom

with my earlier Bergs the iridium made a huge difference in starting the bike......really dramatic and I would not have expected that.........with my 70D I can't tell the difference......

which comes back exactly to my old saying: "you need the Iridium on the earlier bikes to create the best spark possible, the reason is that the ignition systems in the 80s and 90s were weak"

I have tried iridium's and had issues with them not running correctly in my fs650 so reverted back to a standard plug that runs fine. I have also used iridium plugs before in 2 strokes and had no issues I even did testing for ND on protype plugs in the late 80's and have to agree with Taffy ND seem to be a better plug than NGK back then.

I ordered the Denso IXU24 plug, have to wait 4 days since the supplier did not have it on stock, I will wait for it just to try it out since I only bought NGK plugs up untill now and Im curios how will it run.

Cheers, Tom

11 Euros for the Denso and around 12-13 would be for the NGK
