Intake port 1/8" barbed pipe FE/FC 501 89-98

There is a barbed pipe coming out from the back of the head's intake port pointing down and to the left. The parts manual does not show what covers it.
I put a piece of hose with a screw at the end to keep if vacuum tight.
What is that port for? None of my manuals describe its use.
If you do have any write-up on it that would be great to have.
Thanks in advance

if you have an FC tank then you have gravity feed and this needs blocking off as you say. it is redundant.

if however, you have the FE tank then the fuel needs dragging up from the right side up to the left side. it then falls by gravity out of the left 'saddle' to the carb. But to get it up to the left of the tank there is a diaphram pump mounted on the inside face of the tank and they use the vacuum created at the inlet port to pump it up from bottom right to upper left saddle tank (side).

The FE is acyually a far better tank for MX the the FC tank.

Thanks Taffy,
You are correct. Once I started fitting the FE tank I saw the manifold vacuum pump where the hose goes to.
Why is the FE tank better for MX? curious on your comment. I would think that the FC tank allows you more room to tinker with the carb and cable adjustments.
Also what do you recommend for starting the beast? I am having a hard time getting it to kick-start cold at normal temps, say around 15C to 20C.
Thanks, Hans
btw, were you able to find any used decompression shaft, spring and cable-end nipple screw?

uw...you need to ask in an email that kinda stuff. I can't think of my work here.

The FG tank holds its fuel much higher and you cannot move up the FC tank as it is about 40mm taller.

cheers
