Installing piston rings

I am replacing the rings on my 600. After I took the top end off the lower oil ring got bent from cleaning. I can't believe how fragile the oil rings are.

As I only have only done two stroke's before what is the procedure for installing the rings?

Is it best to use a ring compressor?

Is it best to install the piston and rings into the cylinder and then to the connecting rod or can you just install the piston onto the rod, squeeze the rings together by hand and lower the cylinder?

The lower oil ring or rings, there is three but it may be counted as one I don't know, seem extremely delicate.

Bully!

you need a ring compressor. i used the proper ring compressor but not the proper tool. i use my thumb and index to crush the RC closed and then draw the barrel down over the piston c/w rings. crank at TDC, preferably something stopping the crank from spinning willy-nilly!

a good way is to stuff the mouth with rags and that can prop the rod upright in the middle and the drag stops the crank going around.

it's called a 3-piece ring BTW.

you need to learn to pop the ring out onto the piston and just keep flicking it around and out like a tyre off its rim. then push the ring down off the pisotn like a pair of tight knickers.

.....explains why you buy candy in bulk and why you always have a puppy but then sell it when it turns into a dog.

tuts

Seriously though...where do you put the ring gaps according to a clock face. I've always wondered & everyone has their own opinion, few of which are probably right.

anywhere
