Installing fcr41 on 2001 fx650

While I am waiting to receive my parts for a head overhaul I was looking through the boxes and boxes of spare parts I had on this husa and found a fcr41.

The carb seems to fit perfectly in the boot on the head, but it does not fit in the frame boot. The FCR is about 97mm with a 62mm inlet. The delorto has a much bigger inlet diameter.

Can I simply purchase a frame boot for a 2004 model and install this carb?

I am assuming I will be able to find decent jetting specs somewhere on this site?

I do a jetting kit. give me the specs of every jet in your carb and I'll give you some settings. I still have some needles and stuff left from when I either made up a road and track or an enduro jetting kit.

where the carb enters the inlet rubber onto the head you need to remove the first 5mm. that way the one ring on the FCR goes into only one ring on the rubber. the carb is then 5mm nearer the head OK?

check your cable length. there is sometimes way more trouble with the throttle housing.

As far as jets go, we have full range of all keihin jets from pilots to mains, really only interested in baseline jetting sizes. Currently carb is set up for twin pipes which we also got when we purchased bike however we are not interested in running the twins.

Can I get clarification as to "why" I have to move carb 5 mm closer to head?

Lastly, why do I need an adaptor to go into my current frame boot, do the 2004+ models need an adaptor into the frame boot? Why can't I just purchase the proper boot? Is the frame different?

Thanks

there are many different shaped inlets of the carbs

yours looks like it should fit the husa carb to air box boot, if not it won't be far off

if you have a honda NKBT needle laying around somewhere its worth trying with dale lineaweavers jet specs for his needle.

the ideal position of the carb on the 650 is a tad closer to the head and angled upwards a few degrees from horizontal which you can't really get without a "650 specific" adapter for the head.

it will work in other positions, that's just where it is most happy.

thanks bush, the problem is that the delorto is a 65mm inlet, the fcr is a 62mm also, the fcr is 97mm long vs the 100 mm of the delorto. plus if I mod the intake I am losing another 5mm.

As luck would have it, i have an intake that was in the spare parts box that is cut 5mm shorter at the head.

The original owner seems to have been running a pod adaptor on the fcr, I am not interested in running pods - looking for the proper boot to connect to frame.

i adapted the one i used by using a short piece of the proper size auto exhaust tubing and sealing it to the carb inlet.

no worries madsled

its a shame the gallery is not working, weed has really good pictures on how to do this

FWIW if you're looking for a 650 specific billet adapter to use with the late model fcr carb to engine boot ask mopwer he may have a spare, there is good info in his thread as well

lineaweavers jet kit has an enormous number of positive reviews but unfortunately hes out of action for a while, the NKBT is reasonably close though, its leaner on the needle straight and not such a smooth taper toward the end, but it works pretty good. dales specs are here http://husaberg.org/fuel/3922-how-install-lineaweaver-s-jet-kit.html
