Insane grip on ice

Insane - no grip on ice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I put a new ststor in my bike starts so easy I just can't stop going out on it. Went out today (you may be aware UK having a bit of snow & ice at the moment), hacking down a green lane farm track (standing on pegs) suddenly found myself on a tarmac track - 25mm continious full ice sheet........oh s h i t.........smacked my head so hard on the ground I really did see stars for a bit...Still the bike started again straight off the button. Ho Hum...

I"ve seen those ice pics mounted...but do they really work compared to screws??

Thomas...we should have an international ride off...screws vs screws and we'll all meet at the lounge afterwards!!!! How would you like a roadtrip to Sunny Northern Alberta, for a 24 hr marathon on ice???? You should think about it..and we'll make room for you on the team

Pipercross PK-003. For Mazda, but there is diffrent diameters, messure the the carb inlet, if i remember correct the pipercross we use is 67mm. they have filters from 50-100mm diameter.

Then you have to squize the end of the filter to flaten it a bit, to pass the frame where the angled rubber normally is placed, on some bikes we have cut away 1/2 of the steel ring on the frame to have better fit.

They definitely work! :D

I am new to ice riding and this was the first time that I really had a good chance to try the tires out with other bikes to see how good they worked.

I have to say that I am very pleased with the outcome. The conditions wern't all that good as you can see in the pictures... very mild and lots of water but in saying that the back tire gave unbeliveable traction as if it were on asphalt. Coming out of the turns it would hook up so good that the front tire would be in the air without even trying to do so.

Cheers

we need a shoot out, Alberta tires vs Ontario tires vs Quebec tires vs spikes vs Thomas' screws

So now when we have the plan for the shootout ready, then we book a visit at the Husaberg R&D facilities in orebro Sweden, at the same time.
So guys, make your reservation on the airline.

Hey Kelsow that first picture what kind of studs are those? Kind of looks like the same ones I have seen used on snow machine tracks. I would be keen on trying that as I could use an old tire and not worry about screwing anything up too bad.

They are some sort of concrete screw that have been hand sharpened one at a time.
kamikaze on this site made these so he can prolly answer better than I.

They are actually 1 1/4" x 1/4" stainless steel panhead machine screws with nylon insert lock nuts and as Kelsow said sharpened one at a time. I have about 350 in the back tire and around 250 in the front tire. It is quite time consuming sharping and rethreading that many. I used a combination of 1" and 3/4" x 1/4" flat washers for inside and outside the tires. The back tire seems to be holding up quite well but the screws are getting the best of the front tire...go figgure. I would have thought the back tire wouldn't take the strain of that much torque and grip.
