My friend has a 2010 fx 450, he loves the bike, but has just encountered a little problem, when powering out of corners its just cuts out in his description he says like the pilot jet is blocked on a carburated bike, any opinions would be greatly recieved, he's already spoken to someone about ultrasonically cleaning the injector, but 2 heads are better than 1 cheers

Whats the full story on this bike? How many hours? Did you buy the bike new? Has he checked battery terminals for tightness? Does he have th original battery in it? It doesn`t sound like a plugged injector to me, as there would be other problems other than just off idle response.

If all the electrical connections and grounds check good I would suggest checking the fuel pump mounting in the tank as well as the fuel pump connector in the tank.

Good advice from berger. I had a case on my 09 FE450 where the fuel pump came out of the housing and was hanging loose inside the tank. When I would twist open the throttle the pump would come out of the fuel and cause the bike to bog or hesitate. Once the pump fell back into the fuel it would run fine again. This is a rare condition. I have only heard of a couple other bikes that this happened to. I ended up screwing the pump to the housing so this couldn't happen again.

i really dont have any information about the bike's history, but the terminals have been checked, and the fuel pump, so were just waiting for a new plug and cap, the ht lead has signs of something not quite right, im not sure what he means by that??
but i'll keep you all posted
many thanks for your replys

Its my bike in question, I fitted a new spark plug and cap and its sorted! I was convinced it was the injector especially after talking to the dealer, I cant remember the last time anyone changed a spark plug in a 4 stroke!

Sometimes because a FI machine is complicated we look for complicated solutions when they mal function.

It felt like a blocked pilot jet! coming out of a corner and bog, going up face of a jump and bog, But if you babied the throttle you could get it to pull through and it rode like normal!

Its my second 70 degree Berg, and i like it. mostly .....

I've got an injector problem too.

everytime I think i've finished it just keeps dripping a bit more. I give it a shake and all that but I can never trust it....
   Oh wrong thread, er wrong forum     wrong web site!!!!!

I'm glad you got is sorted, and thank you for posting. This type of follow through helps everyone else on the site should they encounter a similar problem.

There was a thread a while back from a guy in Montana that had a very similar problem except his bike would just idle, and then quit as soon as the throttle was opened. He got it back to the dealer and they checked EVERYTHING, to no avail.

Then some one checked the plug..........It had a hair line crack in the porcelain where the cap goes. They replaced just the plug and the problem was solved.

I'm betting that if you examine the old plug carefully you will find such a crack.

Again, glad to see that your problem is solved!

Taffy, I know what you mean, but, it's better than the alternative!

When I went to look at the plug and cap, right away I could see it was suspect. The end of the plug lead looked black and had a burnt smell about it. I shortened the lead by half and inch, new plug and cap and away we went.

Been out for a trail ride today and it performed perfectly.
