inconsistent idle

Hey Guys,

I thought I would ask, My 2005 fs650e has had this problem since the middle of last summer. When I start the bike (2 kicks max) with the choke on it idles at 3500rpm. when I turn the choke off It will go below 1500rpms and die unless i keep my hand on the gas. once the bike is warn it idles at 1900rpms..

My problem is that if I turn up my idle so it idles at 1900rpms right when I trun the choke off, when the bike is warm it idles at 2500rpms. I have also noticed that the warmer the bike is the higher the idle.

I have cleaned my carb completely (ultrasonic machine) and found no issues. the spark plug seems to be burning just fine.

just looking for some pointers on where to look, Thanks

turn your pilot fuel screw under the front ccw a half turn and try that.

Try the clamps on carbie they sometimes look ok but leak drove me crazy looking for the problem. Also replace the float needle/seat they can get funny sometimes. Not sure if ultra sonic will get rid of a gummed up pilot jet i would put a fine piece of wire through it to clean any gum out.

I have turned out the air screw 1/2 turn and hopefully the weather will clear up so I can go test it. I will have a better look at the rubber intake boot for cracks, I looked before and saw nothing but I'll check again. as for the ultrasonic machine the thing is amazing. it cleans carbs better that anything i've ever seen before. My carb actually has a new pilot jet as the old one started to crack when I removed it.

I took the bike out for a ride yesterdayand the temp was about 2 deg celcius so it was pretty cold. The bike ran like a dream with the extra 1/2 turn out on the air screw. I should have checked that before asking the question so I feel like an idiot. But thanks again NED37 for the help .
