improving the breed

i checked my times for doing hawkedon a fortnight ago and they have vastly improved over this time last year.

i did 5 laps in 29 minutes and the course was IDENTICAL to this time last year so comparisons are valid because then i did 4 in 28 and then 5 in 32 and 5 in 31. it means a lap of 6.40 is now a lap of 5.50 or so.

that's a big improvement. as i keep all my records here at UHE it's easy to check all the changes in exactly 12 months to get me to here.

gearing improved to 14/52 from 14/48 or 51
lineaweaver needle
MJ now stands at 148 from about 160 then
tall seat became a very tall seat
MX tailpipe changed to an open but baffled pipe stopped a low speed hesitancy
ported inlet tract
ported and larger exhaust valves fitted
.46s were new that day and the .48s were new for this year. that means that i've gone .42 to .44 to .46 to .48s
rear spring has gone up 3 times from 71 to 76 to 81 to 86
my own shim stack developed
subframe lowered
nissin mastercylinder fitted to the front gi9ving better feel
goldline brake pads

what's been the best thing?

well the best was hitting 148MJ and lineaweaver needle
suspension comes next
taller seat is third

what's left? there's always something!!!!!

i picked up a set of SX bars yesterday from here in leeds which i just happened to be visiting when i won them!

set of these gel 909 grips

450 conversion pretty soon and may want to go to the BV head to go with it BUT as dale will tell you the compression sinks fast with just a straight swop.

more valving changes to the forks and potentially the rear shock as well.

i need to try another pipe with larger down pipes (headers to you!)

also if i go to 450 i'll bore the 39mm carb out to 41mm. having already tested this though it only makes a difference at the top end so.... :(

keep modifying lads.... it does pay off!

Thats good going Taff seeings as course was identical as its bound to be more rutted on the second use, have you ridden more regular this year though as more time on a bike is also a big help?

big time improvements taffy ,i can understand all handling improvements ect but when u r looking at different gearing power improvements so on on a 400 why not just step up to the 501? or r u happy with out put is it just band range u r looking at improving , i haven't been on a 400 but i know my 501 frightens me if i just lose concentration for a split second on a track.never mind in a race situation.I there any weight difference between bikes or seat hight ,or is your bike like an old pair of slippers and u just feel at home riding it mopedsmile:
then again by ur results from last season u could say you have got it right nothing better than good results for hard work.
let me know when u r racing round lancs ill come and say hello and oil ur chain between races

What about the triple clamp offset changes? Did that do anything noteworthy?

You have done all of these improvements to the bike, but what about the rider? Maybe if you took some of these classes (click me), you could go pro! lol.

i think i'm best wringing the neck of the bike i have. it has enough power. i found the 470 too lively but i'm sure i would get used to it.

the offset TCs have to go with raising the fork legs up and through. i've done it 15mm but the first time i tried the s i could feel the bike was easier to flick through the corners and i could trust the front wheel in slow corners.

i'm still running S12s but i got some advice and i now run higher pressures and again this helped.

i've seen your riding style and it's clear you practice what you preach fella!

i rode a lot in the jan to march time but then stopped so i think that that's about even. i'm slightly fitter i think this year as well.
