Went for the first ride on my 2005 FE550e in over a year! After playing with the fueling and setting the suspension again all I can say is wow! That engine rocks!!

Over a year ago I boiled my bike in a really tough enduro here on the Isle of man, I paid to have it fixed and the very next event it did the same but worse. I wasn't feeingl the Berg love at that time. That's when I found this site.

Due to various pressing circumstances I bought an old KTM 450exc for the season and was considering parting the Husaberg out. I broke the bike down and actually started selling bits off on Ebay. Eventually I decided I missed the Husaberg as in comparison the KTM felt flat as a pancake and I off my engine went to Taffy.

The mechanics on the IOM had fixed the head gasket but missed the O rings on the cylinder liner which had been melted letting the coolant into the oil. The second overheat had also done some damage to the head.
Having sold the KTM earlier this summer and getting the engine back from Taffmeister. I've set about slowly rebuilding the Berg with new head and swingarm bearings and replacing almost every nut and bolt. With a new plastics kit and seat it looks amazing again, though the electrics are a pain. (why will my rear light never work)

A few guys have given me advice on this site to which I am very grateful and hopefully now this bike will prove perfect for the coming season. Sure I'd like a newer bike, and had been tempted by the offers on 2008 bikes here in the UK, but with all the things done this one feels almost as good and I'd miss the 550 engine.

Just goes to prove that once you're ridden a Berg you can never go back!!

Cheers Berger, I honestly was surprised by how strong the motor was. I'm off to a rally in Wales this weekend and will give it a full shakedown there. I wanted to put pictures on as I've got black wheels with blue hubs on now and it looks fantastic.
I did a desert Rally last year on the KTM but If I can iron out a few of the Husaberg foibles I'll be looking to get a desert Rally Berg built at some point. I've seen Gazza and his Bergs before but my ultimate is this, check out

mine is almost there!

hey keiran that looks great! a pro's bike!

just to mention that the headgasket had leaked for so lonhg it had left a black line which i hadn't seen since my car days! so you had a skimmed head which luckily had enopugh squish space left and had the bonus of gaining a little power. the camchain tensioner which on your bike doesn't have the alloy blob needed it! i had spent several weeks ripping the blobs off and just when i wanted to do a p/ex for you none were around but eventually one arrived and i did a nifty swop.

the waterpump housing needed a bit o the lavishness upon it and after that the engine was sweet. water and that engine weren't friends for a while!

the bottom end has had the DCR expensive roller; conversion prior to me but i still took nearly 1mm/.040" out of the right case forthermal expansion. i managed to rebuild the engine but had no frame or engine from apost 2003 but low and behold in came a 650 with a main run and i had too (whatever happened!) make sure keiran's engine was done and in the donor frame before the 650 was ready to slot in. with the customer calling me regularly for an update i just about got away with it and ran up the manxberg motor!

i shall not say who but he won't need a berg where he's going i hope!

the 'O' rings were fried and i knew this coz i did mine once!! so now i hope you have some good hunting.

nice one!

regards

Taffy
