What is missing from the market that you would like to buy? For me and my FE550, it'd be a larger tank.

The reason I ask is I'm thinking about using my engineering skills for coming up with a few new bits (not just because it'd mean I could by a new bike through my company!). For those that care I was a design engineer at Triumph since 2005, having been involved with the street triple, Tiger 800, and other yet to be announced projects! I've now decided to start up my own design company - My designs have a history of being good and I have good manufacturing contacts which could help the feasibility of the plan!

If there's enough interest in something particular, I may have a go!

All thoughts gratefully received,

Martin

How about an alloy rear fender replacement for the dual-sports that incorporates the factory tail and signal lights, has a mount for the standard American-sized license plate, and will not snag the rear tire at full shock compression?

But they make larger tanks.....

a)passenger pegs? ones that hold chubby girls of course!!!!!!
b)universal bolt on trailer hitches with 100lb tongue rating?
c)swivel mount for ak-47?
d)5-15hp nitrous/fuel kits?
e)backup camera?

ok take it easy, i was only serious till i got to back up camera....

ok thought of a couple more, how about unversal brakets for mounting of additional lights, you could make differnt size brakets to mount to say handlebars, forks, or frame pipe, then you can bolt on whatever light on that you like to other side of braket, also they are universal and can be sold for any bike or atv as well.
not quite as practical, but i would like a inexpensive universal rack system, like just a few diferent sizes of racks to pick from and can figure out how to mount them on you own depending on what you ride, of course a lot of bikes have a rack option that is made to fit but are still expensive, my options would be to make my own (which i may) or to buy one that fits something else then cut off the mount pipes and make my own connection brakets, but i am cheap and wont buy a 200.00 rack just to cut it up to modify it for my old beater...
and just so you know i was serious about the passenger pegs on my previous post...not the chubby girl part tho...

Well, Mart, is that a good start, or should we start talking about ram air injection, turbo mufflers, and solenoid operated valves? :bounce:

An under seat alloy box for spares and tools for the pre 2009's would be nice.

A rear rack for my o7 550 would be awesome and I would pay $200.00 if it bolted on and I did not have to modify it!

Obviously all my ideas are for the pre '09 bikes!
An under seat storage box does sound useful... As does the auxillary light mounts! How about, rather than just the mounts, make up a full on auxillary light kit? Including mounts, lights (led) and switch gear? That I would defo buy!
After market exhausts are very thin on the ground so a mega quiet twin pipe system that didn't cost the earth would also be nice! Maybe I'm dreaming with that one!
How about a light unit that would fit into a standard mask (so looked stock) but which incorporated hid or led technology?
I could prob think of a few more little things. It's nice to see there are people out there who are prepared to tackle the lack of after market goodies for the pre '09's!

The headlight is an issue for all of these bikes, and aftermarket options are mightly thin. For me LED and HID are not viable solutions because they're not street legal. I see no point in spending over $10,000 for a street legal dual-sport, and then spending another $500 to $750 on a headlight that makes it illegal to ride on the street. A simple conversion to a standart high/low halogen headlight bulb would be cheaper, legal, and adequate.

On the fly adjustable ride height suspension and damping with a click of a button :p

It's not far off, to be sure. BMW already has it on a big bike.

You won't need to push a button, it continuously adjusts to conditions by monitoring the speed of movement of the shock / fork. Hit something hard, before you even feel it at all, the computer is adding damping.

One thing they probably haven't thought of, the suspension position sensors would know when you were airborne. Damping should be added incrementally per unit of time in that condition!

It could also learn your riding style and your bike and would adjust defaults as necessary depending on reactions to its inputs, monitored over time.

I'd say it's coming within 5 years. It's too simple and too trick not to do it.

Thanks to everyone that's posted ideas, there's plenty there to think about!

A bit of feedback to those received so far:

Rear Fender - There's a lot of after market rear fenders in the market place already, and I'm surprised you've not found one that works with bike. Many of the plastic ones (admittedly that don't use the stock lighting), can be tweaked by applying heat and bending them into shape. I'm not sure there's enough demand for a Husaberg specific part, and the price would be prohibitive (unless you were to invest large sums in tooling).

2 Stroke Map Switch - I know the square root of bugger all about engine mapping - although I have just put a deposit down on a new TE250, so am looking forward to comparing the two maps!

Pillion Pegs - The bikes aren't designed to take pillions (so there'd be liability issues if something was to happen due to poor handling or something breaking) and I doubt there'd be enough demand for pillion pegs.

Universal Lighting Mounts - Like the idea of universal lighting mounts. Opening it up to many different models is a good thing, and with the wide range of good value LED lighting out there, could be worth further investigation.....

Lighting Upgrade to fit existing cowl - As with the rear fender idea, there's lots of existing options out there. Also, the tooling cost of reflectors and lenses is surprisingly large (tens of thousands of pounds).

Rear Rack - Like the idea of this, as it's something I'd find useful too! Possibility of the part being a fabrication or machined billet means there's no tooling cost, so quite feasible. Watch this space!

Underseat storage box - Should be quite easy to do, so I'll look further into this too....

New Exhaust - a lot of tooling cost and development work would be needed for this - a bit too much for me.

Electronically Adjustable Suspension - the development cost would be massive, and only the sort of thing a manufacturer could do properly. I don't think you'll see it on proper off road bikes any time soon though as the weight disadvantage would be prohibitive.
Regarding the bike automatically updating the suspension, I can't see that happening in the near future on road bikes or off road bikes. The reason being if you're riding your bike and then it's performance characteristics change without you knowing then you go round a corner and crash "because the bike suspension wasn't set as you thought" then there'd be liability issues. You would not believe the things some people try and sue motorcycle manufacturers over!

Any more suggestions gratefully received, and I'll do my best to respond when I can.
