I live in Dubai. I have a '98 Elduro 600 Husaberg which I purchased just 6 months ago.
Dubai is hot right now. Around the 40 degrees Celsius tops and going to get hotter before it gets cooler.. But I love riding in the desert anyways.
Reading posts on this site I would have to rank myself as a baby style beginner compared to you guys so bear with me.
I bought the bike 'cos it was cheap. I have never had a serious dirt bike before. I was tired of paying an arm and a leg for repairs to my Landcruiser for taking it in the desert and decided I get into something that provided a bit more contact with the desert. (I get plenty of desert contact from falling off all the time).
The guys who do my mechanical work are the (were the) local franchise holders for Husaberg. They told me that they will not continue to act as dealers and have stopped ordering spare parts. So if something goes wrong I have to order and wait and maybe even just get onto eBay and hope. Problem is a lot of eBay providers won't ship here either.
I was seriously considering going to a CRF450 and letting the berg go. As it is a bit 'sensitive'. But I have to admit that seeing the enthusiasm on this site for the blue and yellow is making me think well I might get the CRF but I am keepin the berg if just to learn how to fix motorcycles.
I had the tappet cover off this week (baby steps to start out) and found that the water impellor was totally degraded (maybe that is why it was getting hot). I change the oil and filter regularly and love the bike, though it lets me down sometimes.
Just wanted to say that this site is great. It has given me a bit of confidence to think that there are a lot of things that I can actually do myself to keep the bike running great.. ( So am I unrealistic about that??)
A friend of mind approached me with the idea of opening and 'Indian' bike franchise here.. hmm now I am thinking that could be OK as long as it had a few bergs around too.... 8)
