I think I screwed up replacing the countershaft seal.

I hope I did not but the seal was quite difficult to remove and I was using a offset screwdriver to get behind the metal lip of the seal and pry it out. When I got it out I saw that the brown/yellow plastic piece just in front of the roller bearings had a nick in it. It is not all the way through and I have turned the countershaft and it spins around easily. But i see the nick (about 10:00 in the picture) and think I will have to split the case and replace it.

Am I screwed or lucky?

I hate to have this be my first post :cuss: Only about 150 miles (by me) and wanting to get as many rides as possible before winter.......now this happens.

Hi and welcome

If it was me, I would not open it yet, but I would keep an eye on it.

Ride it for a while and check if something happens.

After I had taken a little time to calm down, look at it carefully and think about it for a while.......I put it all back together. Everything seems good. So I'll take it out for a ride this weekend. Does not seem so bad now. But when I first saw it..... 8O May have even been there already. Thanks for the reply and I'll post up with how it works out. Hopefully just nice clean (no more oil leak) riding. Also just put on a Kush sprocket and can't wait to see if I can tell any difference. 90+ % dirt but.....just wanted to help this thing last a long time.

i see the problem! somebody put it on the wrong side of the bike.

i think youll be fine, just a nick isnt broken

you will have to let us know how the kush sprocket works, what model/cc is your bike? you should keep an hour log too see how long it goes, everbody has a million questions but few real tests from what i could find..

congrats on your new bike

So you are saying I have the "south of the equator" model? 8O Could that be why I have such a hard time kick starting it? :D

2009 FE450. Went for a 110 mile ride with only about 10 miles pavement. No more leaking countershaft and this bike still impresses me! On a gravel road and the front end washed out a little and I did not eat it! That was the bike and not me. I like this bike more each time I ride it. Over the past year I have had a DR650, Dorsoduro 750, Griso 100 and a WR250X. This one is a keeper.

We started the ride in on pavement and the first thing I noticed was that the bike seemed smoother. Not sure if it was just my mental expectation or a real improvement. I swapped bikes for a bit with my riding partner (he was really interested in the Berg) and rode his 1997 KTM 620........his seat is much better, the KTM vibrates much more and I like the power band of the Berg more than his KTM. I'll start another thread about the sprocket to keep it separate and focused. Going to hose the bike off, oil the chain and go riding.

I melted that plastic bearing cage pretty good on my KTM trying to get the spacer off the shaft with a torch. Lots of cussing and it did finally come off. I think that was 2 years ago, its still going fine.

Good to hear you are liking the Berg, took me a bit to warm up to the LDC's unique handling but now its my favorite and the KTM stays home.
