A dark dark place
i was servicing my fe 400 its a 03 model with 53 hours and 1200 miles and decided to look at the tappets they were very tight. we loosened them off and to get the required clearence and the screws were out as far as they went so we got it all done and back together and tried to start it the compression was unbelivebly high. i weigh nearly 13 stone and i had to leap on the kick start to bearly just move it, with one big kick it came to life and it sounded realy clatery near the tappet area. before we ajusted them the valve train was realy quiet you couldent hear it, and how loud should the engine be?
can some one help me!

read my post about adjusting them on the FS650 sounds like you have done it wrong as I did and the compression felt massive also, thank god it didn't start on mine as it can damage it straight away.

10-15 seconds prolly won't hurt anything. follow the directions on where the flywhhel and piston are supposed to be, adjust using the 1/6 turn method, properly tighten the nut, you'll be good to go.
CHECK THE OWNERS DOC ON THE LEFT

yeah as long as you weren't revving it up in those 10 secs?! ;)

go with the dots lined up and the 1/6th turn don't even bother using a feeler gauge will do your head in!

lol as in yours not the bikes although some ppl like Taffy say the gauge method is bad as the tappets get worn and cup or something so the feeler gauge gives a wrong reading.

Bergiefe400, do as ned37 said & go to the OWNERS DOC first. It under "servicing & keeping an eye out ". Read it fully & check out the links attached, one is for a ktm I think, but same deal.
