some guys I have the opportunity to buy a husaberg fe 501 2001 with a starter for 800 eur, but it is broken, the seller claims that with each trip it lost compression. How do you think it's worth getting into it?
Did these engines have any common cylinder liner related faults?

ned37,

What was the problems with that year? I have a 2001 FC550, the only problems I have had was the single row bearing in the counter balance came apart year after purchase and hair line crack left side of engine case, stator needed rewinding. Other than normal wear on piston, rod bearing and main bearings. The motor has been rebuilt 3 times in 20 years, only once was the rebuild required, other 2 times was the big end of the rod out of around from over revving, very low tapping noise from big end.

I have done many of Taffy's upgrades which has helped in starting and reliability, so possible there could of been more problems if I had not followed up with information from this site, Dan, Dale L. and Taffy suggestions.

I was told by Dan to remove or upgrade the counter balance shortly after purchase, well I had put out it off, so I paid the price. The shop I purchase the bike from should of completed the upgrades per Husaberg of Canada and one the other shop. But the shop that I purchased from refused to look into the upgrades.

if there ever was a model year to avoid, it would be that one:(

Just to make it perfectly clear:

"IF THERE EVER WAS A MODEL YEAR TO AVOID IT WOULD BE THAT ONE."

Nothing else is required to be said except to perhaps type it in caps.

Well my has been great, I guess it was built in the middle of the week, not on Monday or Friday some of the worst build dates.

Like you say, you have done a lot of the upgrades and mods. in 2002 they made a better fist of it and even better in 2003 and then 2004. so logically, 2001 being the first year - that is the one to avoid.

Its not stand-out worse, just a little worse.

Thank you very much, I have a Husaberg fc 600 from 2000 and I am thinking about selling and changing to a newer husaberg do you think it's a good idea

thank you for your interest in my 600 I made a lot of money but it works fine why do you think it's worth keeping that 600 00?

The 2000 FC was also available with the 6 speed transmission. So I think a transmission from any pre 2001 bikes will fitted to your bike.

The 2001 and the 2000 have the same Delorto and SEM ignition set up.

The 2000 was last year of a motor that was known to be pretty bullet proof with exception of the SEM ignition. The KTM RFS engine 520/525/530 up to 07 or 08 is basically a copy of the pre 2001 and share several parts.
