First the bike started great with Spark's rewound SEM, and I was working on setting the idle and the mixture screw properly, when... HUH? Stalled.
I thought, okaaaay, I must have set the idle too low, no biggie. But then I realized the kick start was stuck. I thought the worse and PMed a couple friends. Berger's advice was to turn the flywheel and see.
After an initial resistance, it turned fine and the kickstart was working fine as well.
I took the left side cover off and this is what I found (see below).
At first I thought it was a piece from the defunct rocker cover... but hmm no, too heavy. And then I noticed it was sort of hexagonal and had a threaded hole in the middle. Darn it, this was locknut that got chewed up by the cam chain... I thought I had shot through the top.
Obviously a piece of metal from my rocker cover explosion. I thought I had done a through and good job looking for all broken bits, well I must have missed that one or it was hiding somewhere.
I am glad it did not do any damage to any gear tooth and that I had the bike at a very low rpm when it decided to wreck my evening (and following day).
I am so glad I found it, for some reason. I have a bizarre feeling of completeness.
