I had a little "mishap" today at the track. Lets just say the berg went for a loop...

I don't think its repairable, so what are my options?

Its the full Ti system so I don't think I can buy just the muffler or slip-on that will fit the Ti header. Any know if it is possible?

Anyone ever fit another brand slip-on to a Akropovic header?

Anyone have an oem or after market full system they want to sell?

Thanks,

Mike

could you put the endcap and front pipe onto another middle piece or is the front pipe bent too badly as well?

the front pipe has a little kink in it but I don't think it will have a very big impact on the flow of the exhaust. I wonder what muffler has the same size and shape as the Akro?

I think I might be mistaken.... The force depot catalog has this part 80005079000. It says it requires the "factory Titan header." Anyone know for sure that this will fit my Akra Ti header?

Its still pretty steep at $700+ bucks!

Hey Mike,
Sorry to see your pics. Anyway, I don't know what is inside that is bent also but with the price of them things I would be tempted to heat
it up with a torch and work it out. Here's how I would attemp this
Remove the riveted sections leaving you with the bent can
Find a bench and vice set up with a torch.
I have removed dents before this way on titanium headers successfully by heating up the damaged area and using a metal prod from the inside
push it back out.
It takes time. Problem is that I could probably work out something like what you have with different shaped prods and careful
heating but it wouldn't be that pretty anymore. But do you want it to work? I would give it a try and then wrap it with some
heat shield in that area to mask the burn't area that would sure to have some bumps.
I've crushed 2 titanium $300 headers and removed them this way and got the shape real close.
This is just a sugestion for you.

Pollo,

when I brought my akra slip on from wildman, I was looking to do it up because it had a few dings in it, I ended up getting onto a guy in Adelaide, South Australia that made and repaired these items, so I was lucky, he could knock the dings out on a piece if steel tube and do any welding necessary, all for $80.00.

before i got onto this guy, I tried calling a heap of importers / manufacturers to see if I could get an alloy or ti can of the same dimensions to slot in, I tried Akra (other bike brands), Barrett, Leovince and one other one with strap type mountings and none fitted, some were within a few milimetres of what I was after though. given that the 650 system has a bigger can dimension, I would encourage you to check out barrett ( http://www.barrettexhausts.com.au/html/aboutus.htm ) they are in OZ but it may yield some result - oh and dont let them brush you off telling you some other joker was after the same thing 12 months ago.

failing that, contact Terry Merritt at Redline Exhausts ( http://redline-exhausts.com.au/index.html ) even though its in aust, $100 for the work and say $30 postage each way is still a cheap fix for your silencer.

only other option is to find a Ti metal fabricator and / or supplier, and get a quote on getting a piece of 0.6 or 0.8 Ti rolled and seam welded. No one could do this in South Aust when I was looking, but I suspect that there are a lot more options in the US.

Good luck!

Azza.

Yes Azza,
I agree the hammer and dolly method would be the way to finish ironing it out.
Once you get the can pushed out to get a dolly or pipe in there you can iron out the
ruffness to get the shape closer.

Start of the race. Too much gas, not enough clutch slip. Bike ended upside down with me standing there looking at it.

Just as an idea if it's just the can that is bent, ie both the ends are still ok, why don't you replace the rolled Ti for aluminium? There are loads more people around who can roll a sheet of alu into a can than there are paople who specialise in Ti. weight for such an item is very minimal in difference!

Yes thats the right muffler to the Ti-header.

Just the silencer and the rear fender but that is still usable. I didn't even hit the ground, landed on my feet!

Sorry guys, dont know why I addressed my response to Pollo, just another case of brain fade (and i wasnt even drinking) - should have been addressed to Super Moto Mike.

Azza.

I have the 2005 OEM silencer that came on my 650. I don't know if you would be interested in it as it's not the full system.
I had about 30 hours or so before I changed it
I replaced it with the Akrapovic silencer.

Did you try any west cost dealers Bike Barn, MotoXotica? They might have one or have a lead somewhere to get one. It would be worth the call.

Thanks Pollo but that doesn't do me any good because I have the Akra header. I don't have the oem header anymore.

I emailed them yesterday. I'm sure they will get back to me this week.

I might have got lucky. I think I found a used Akra slip-on that will fit. I'll post up pics when I get it.
