hydraulic clutch for 99

Is it worth updating and modding the pre 00 bikes or are you better off getting a newer one

ok i know this has probably been asked b4 but here goes .
The 2000 while having the new chassis has the same motor as myn but has the hydraulic clutch .
Would it be an easy job to adapt this to the 99 as the mounts and such would be there yes or are they on the frame . Has any one put a hydraulic clutch onto the older shapes ..? :?

cheers doug

(ps) would it be possible for someone to take a phew close ups of there 00clutch slave cylinder setup thank you )

Hi,

yes it is possible. Even at older engines it´s no problem, cos
the crankcase looks like the newer ones.

But: YOu have to dismantle your engine, give the right half
to a milling cutter, make some thread holes (M5) and mount the
lower clutch cylinder to your crankcase. Sounds easy, or not?
You should have some mechanical skills, to do it...
You also need another pushrod, or you can shorten the old one.

Please, send me an email and remind me, so I can take pictures of a dismantled 2001 engine,
it´s nearly the same outer appearance at this area.

(1) i need a new clutch cable soon

(2) my clutch is very heavy hoping to lighten its action

(3)to smooth out the action is hard to slip the clutch making hill climing difficult

(4) if i dont spend my money on my bike i just end up spending it on woman and booz :p

cheers doug

An option to the machining of cases is to contact Magura for one of their bolt on hydraulic clutch units. I believe that they have a bolt on unit that replaces the cable setup for about $200. The critical setup is dimension is the distance from the clutch arm to the cable "tab" on the case. Check it out at:

http://www.magura.com/magura_unternehme ... set_en.htm

The product is listed as "163/724 HYMEC - Hydraulic clutch system" and is described as:

"- Hydraulic clutch system to control a mechanical clutch: one piece alloy cylinder with reservoir, forged alloy blade, pressure point and blade reach adjustable, easy to fix with clamp, cylinder and blade pivot protected against foreign elements with rubber cap. Filled with MAGURA-BLOOD (mineral oil)."

Good luck,

Barry

I have purposely avoided this topic in the past as the required modifications are troublesome and quite time consuming. Unfortunately a simple bolt on is not available at this time.

For what it may be worth:

I have been using the Magura universal hydraulic clutch system on early Husaberg engines since 1999. Said system does require some modification, however, once complete has proven every bit as efficient as that of the OEM.

Modifications include:
Fabricate and install case lever adaptor
Fabricate and install slave cylinder pivot mount
fabricate and install longer, stronger slave cylinder shaft with appropriate fitting

hi 44014,first and foremost spending money on women and booze is not always a bad thing to do.I tried as many variations as I could think of for cable(clutch) routing because I was unhappy with the drag in the cable and also the way it always seemed to get pinched between the bottom steering yoke and the steering lock.I tried routing the cable behind the the handlebar(same idea as throttle cable) then down behind the right front rad mount(square hole),down accross the front of the rad and straight back to the clutch lever on the engine.Space the cable if need be from the exh pipes with a piece of fuel line(30 mm long)and a zip tie using the power lead to the starter motor as a support. On my 1999 fe400e the difference this made was amazing.I also used a new lubled cable. If yours is not routed this way now, just try it........nsman
