RE: Re: RE: Hyde Racing Skidplate
Ok finally got the Hyde bashplate mounted up. It took about 10 mins and that including drilling one plastic plug out of the lower frame rail/cross brace.
So my opinion, i am a little surprised it didn't extent round the sides a little more and i have tried to cover that in the photos. It also does not look like it allows for a header shield to be fitted, as the fit there is not perfect. Hyde have not followed the stock plate idea of lipping up and over the frame cross brace, so there are no fixings at the rear. They are using 2 bolts to bolt the rear to underside of the frame cross brace. There are 2 plastic plugs threaded in frame that need removed first (i pulled the head off one with the pliers so had to drill it out - doh). This does mean its more involved for oil changes and thats a downside for sure. The front mounting basically copies the OEM version, with a longer cap screw and an aluminium spacer to bolt to the same place the stock one fits.
I had no issues lining the 3 mounting holes up, although the back ones need a bit of shove, as the plate sits a little proud on my header shield. I have a small concern about how many threads are engaged on the rear mounts, as i tried threading the cap screws in first to see how far they went and the answer was not far. I ended up with an extra washer on one side to get it to nip up and have also used a spot of loctite. Again not good for regular oil changes. Oh like all these bash plates, i drilled a small hole in the side and cable tied it to the frame, for some extra security. Don't want to loose it on the first ride if it all comes loose.
So all in all an easy fit, just maybe not perfect and the jury is out on the level of protection. I have a big ride tomorrow, in the order of 300km, that includes some rocks, so i will be interested to see how the Hyde copes. I have shown the 2 plates together, OEM and Hyde, then a before and after shot from each side to remind you how the OWM one looks.
