I've jumped from road bikes to a FE 450 and having never ridden a off road bike before it feels totally 100% alien, boy its going to take some getting used to.

To feel more comfortable I could probably do with the bike lowering 1 or 2 inches, is this possible?

yes, i am inseam challenged (30") and ride a lot of tight terrain. i fell over a lot and damn near pulled a groin throwing my leg over,

Had Dale respring and valve as well as dropped 35mm...way better now

firstly are you a lightweight and did the bike come from a lardy who had heavier springs fitted?

I bought the X-bushing for the bottom joint and I guess they may do one for the top joint as well but that is a start. get the sags right and perhaps let it sag the full 105mm (see your set up guide for this) and whatever you let the back down by you can do by dropping the clamps down the legs at the front.

then other than cutting a lump out of the seat I'm afraid there is nothing else for it: you'll just have to learn to ride it.

Hi, Husaberg do a 20mm lower seat or you can have the shock shorted internally which we can do here at our workshop as we are a WP specialist, yours Midwest Racing Ltd

Hi, what height reduction will the shorten shock give me? I'm just trying determine if i can get away with just one of the two  .

Incidentally i didn't think I was particularly challenged in the height department at 5ft 10" but I obviously am :(

Hi, trying to decide which is best for me, either the seat or the lowering kit or both. How much lower will the bike be with just the lowering kit? Thanks.

what are the springs on your bike?

Its no good doing a lowering kit, or an X-bushing or cutting lumps out of the seat if you aren't running the right springs.

In the first instance I've ordered a low seat from Midwest, we'll see if I need to take the lowering kit for the shock in due course.

Lowered seat is indeed very nice! Can grab the fuel tank with thighs much better now.

I have 15mm shortened forks and 4mm shock, but I ride SM only and sometimes just for fun hit some gravel roads.
Way too bouncy and rock hard suspension for trail riding atm. :D

I've been trailriding for 8 years and if I have a months break it feels alien to me for the first 5 miles too.
Personally I always think if you're trying to touch the ground then you are halfway to falling off anyway, keep your feet on the pegs and ride the thing, momentum is your friend.
As has been said set the sag up first then go ride some easy routes to get your confidence up before moving on to more technical stuff, there's plenty of both up Yorkshire way.
In all honesty as a self confessed novice rider you just need some confidence boosting bike time before modifying the bike.
