Husaberg valves

I just finished checking my valve clearances on my '05 Husaberg at 60 hours. Besides the initial break-in adjustment, where the intakes were slightly tight, the valves have not moved at all.

This is in contrast to my KTM 520, where I had to Replace both intake valves at 150 hours due to excessive wear from the valve seats. The KTM valves seem to need constant adjustment every 20 hours or so. They are notorious for soft intake valve material.

I was curious to see if the Husaberg had the same issues, but clearly the valve material is a different (better) grade of SS on the 'Berg.

actually john THEY DID have the same trouble!

go into gallery and taffy and i have some rather poor photos of 'tuliped inlets on mine. all of a sudden though it stopped happening. no idea which year or how. can anyone spread some light here? joe?

i think they changed valve sizes in '04 to the BV head and 37/30 and have heard nothing since.

Where can I find step by step instructions on how to set the valves on my 06 FE450. It may seem simple to someone that has done it many times, but I am new to the 4 stroke world. Thanks in advance.

Heehee for once I will say: "It's all in the doc!"

You can also download the videos (download section).

Basically: remove radiator (or not if you cut an allen wrench), open valve covers with piston at TDC on compression stroke, loosen hex bolt, central screw all the way in, back 1/6th (some say 1/8th) of a turn, easily done if you use the sides of the hex bolt, then tighten said hex bolt.

Shims? What's that?
