Hello All,

A very warm welcome to you to our new little area!

Now, as you may be aware, the suggestion that we even have a SuperMoto forum specifically caused quite a stir throughout our membership base. In part this has nothing to do with more than the fact that the other forums cover such a wide range of subjects, some argued that they would suffice for everything and therefore the SM forum would be redundant.

With this in mind, before you post your thread to the SM forum, please have a think about whether it wouldn't be more suitable elsewhere. If so, then post it there, otherwise the moderators here are going to have to move it anyway.

Please just keep posts within this section to SM specific subjects only and everyone will be happy.

Other than that, I can only say that the other rules will be as per the rest of the site, as far as I know, anyway

As for further information regarding the subject of SM we may want some introductory information on Supermoto for those not too familiar with it and it's inherent attitude. Is there anything specifically you would like to see, then please let me know and we'll try and sort it out.

Again, welcome and, as always, cheers,
Simon

RE: bumpity, bump....

So just to clarify, is this for SM bikes that are used on the track and/or road?

RE: bumpity, bump....

Hi there loonyberg,

We're not very strict about it. Both are welcome :D

thanks,

RE: bumpity, bump....

I'd like to ride an FS sometime. The smaller wheels lower the bike a little more than my FE. Sorry, (Did I say FE?) I hope I don't get booted! Anyway I probably would feel comfortable on it.
Plus, they look so cool!!

I couldn't help but notice when this forum was first started, when it was recently picked up and how many total posts are on it..
LOL!! LOL!!!!

RE: bumpity, bump....

for anyone who owns an FS650 I have been looking at getting one sometime in the near future and would just like to know more about them. The subject doesn't have to be all that specific, as long as it deals with the SM 650 I am interested. It could be triumphs or things you don't like about them, or times you were riding and had a "Holy Crap I can't believe these things are capable of doing that" sort of moment. Anyone interested in talking about them I'm game.

Hi MotardHooligan,

I'm not as experienced with, or as accomplished in Supermoto riding as some of the guys on here, but I can give you my experience for what it's worth.

I passed my bike test in 02, & promptly bought an R6., After binning it twice (once in Wales & once @ Jurby airfield in the Isle of man), I got an 03 ZX6R.

So my experience had always been Japanese sports bikes, nothing else.

I then got an 02 Husaberg FS650E & loved it (when it was running). I have to be honest and say that I found the 02 difficult to start, the e-start was never going to work, just not enough uummff to turn over the engine sufficiently), and kicking a bike was alien to me, (especially on the left hand side). However, that said, I absolutely loved the riding style, & what a contrast to the sports bike!

I then decided to get an 04 FS650E, (the best move I ever made). Starts off the e-start instantly! Now, (to me at least) it's a different ownership experience altogether, I go out to the garage, with all the gear on, pull the bike out, start her, jump on & away you go, no more hassle.

I completely love the performance and handling, flicking it nimbly into corners, or especially round roundabouts on a local industrial estate is great fun. I'd say riding this bike is where I REALLY learnt to ride a bike. Because of the better feedback/response I feel on this bike (and the fact that you turn the bike in-between your legs rather than hanging off as u do on a sports bike), my confidence grew, and to my utter surprise I heard the pegs scrape on the road one day, and to check I did it again. Only after doing this was I confident enough to jump back on the sports bike & go get my knee down for the first time, so the bike has a lot to be thanked for.

If your looking for people who have first hand experience to give you an honest opinion on them, I'd say GET ONE!

They are very competitive straight from the crate (although some are always looking for more....), and will thrash other so called supermotos developed for the roads.

Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Hi MotardHooligan,
I know it's not the 650 but I thought I would post my own opinion about my bike...
I have owned my supermoto'd FE501 for just over a year now and I can truly say everytime I go out on it I amaze myself! Now I have gone the whole hog with this bike in terms of tuning and setting it up perfectly for supermoto'ing and, although I've never ridden the 650 I'm sure it can't be too much better... Put it this way... I scare myself enough on this bike and can't possibly dream of going any faster! That said though it's not just the scares that this bike give me... Sometimes, after a particulaly good set of bends where everything just comes together, I am quite honestly screaming in my helmet through shear joy! The emotions brought up by riding a bike like this are simply staggering!
I think what I am trying to say is that I don't think it matters which 'berg you get... They're all superb bikes! Just make sure you've got all the protective gear on!

On the subject of supermoto my first bike was a 2005 Fs650e. I had had a go on a bike twice before and didn't do to well ended up on my arse both times. Then I ended up with a car that needed some repairs and to far to walk to work. A mate of mine said take the bike just be nice to it and you'll be OK maybe have a bit of a practice around the streets before you get into peek hour. So on the trailer I got the bike home Saturday night went and bought a helmet Sunday arvo (about 3pm) and armed with nothing else No Bike Licence I headed out to see what would happen. The 2 bikes i had come off one a DT200 and the other an old XR250 now the 650 was going to be interesting. I did a few laps of the street and was terrified to twist the throttle but started to get confident after an hour or two. Monday morning was going to be a test hit the traffic and that was scary. By the end of the week I recon I was getting better at it but i can honestly say that this was not a beginners bike. But fell in love with it and when I had to give it back to may mate I was devo'd. So when he decided to get rid of it a year or so later I had to have it back. It lasted a 1000 km then required a full rebuild $5000 and now its in the back yard in bits (broken valve spring on new motor 700K's) Went looking at bikes last week as i wasn't happy that my toy was buggered again. rode a 510 husky, KTM's, Suzuki and was disappointed with them all they all felt like beginners bikes soft and uninteresting. the 650 is an out and out weapon my daily ride is an 07 sprint and have clocked up some K's on that and that is quicker than the berg and very civilised and for every day use great, but when I want to have my eyelids torn off and piss off other motorists my choice will be the little 650 every day!!

Good Day
I own a Husaberg FE 650 2006/7 model the engine blew due to incorrect sprokets.
I cannot get spares in South Africa.
I have sourced an 2001 Husaberg 650 to canabalize to my newer 650.
Will the 650 engine fit the newer frame?
cam anyone advise?
Pedro

01 engine should fit straight in, will need the 01 wiring loom/electrics. I think the only thing you'd need to do is rig up something where the earths connect to the frame on the 01 (circular formation of blade connectors)
