Husaberg NEWBY - estart problem on 650fe

Hi all,

I am recently become the proud owner of a 2005 fe650 berg. Before I purchased, I had never riden or even seen one...

I have had the bike for about a month now (and love it) BUT having dramas with the Estart.

When the bike is cold, and when attempting to start via Estart it will turn over two or three times before disengaging the engine. I can hear the starter motor still turning over at good pace, but without the engine engaging. I take my finger off and back on, with the same result. Eventually It starts or I just kick it over.

Once the bike is warm, the Estarter works fine..

As I said, Im a newy to these bikes, any help extremely appreciated.

Thanks

welcome to bergland. on the left side of the page is the "owners doc" which is full of tech info about mostly '01 -08 bikes.
your problem is caused by either all or part of four things. thick cold oil causing cranking resistance, a weak starter torque limiter gear, a weak/ worn starter sprague, and/ or loose exhaust valves. best policy on one that has good parts and a strong battery is to let the engine spin over for a few seconds using the handlebar decomp. but if the p.o. abused it, you may have to replace a part or two.

I think that they are officially a restarter. I kick mine when cold, and estart after that. Its been cool lately, and the oil makes a difference like Ned says. I run 15w40 Delo 400 and its thick when cold.

If you persist in slipping the sprague it will only get worse. Park it in the sun for a while before starting helps too.

The 05's actually had a recall on the torque limiter. Have your dealer check the VIN number to see if yours was affected. As Ned stated check "the doc" for more info.
