HUSABERG love hate....relationship

I have to say I have a love hate relationship with Husaberg. As many of you will most likely know by reading my posts. I have owned a berg since 2004 and until now 2008. I loved having a bike that was light and handled like no other. I loved having a bike that wasnt the same as everyone elses. I loved the simplicity involved when I had to change the oil filter and airfilter. I loved having no airbox. I loved the minimalistic engineering of the whole motorcycle. But most of all I loved riding them. I didnt like how i could treat my Husabergs better than any KTM or Jap owner and still have problems. The 2002FE400 had Rocker Arm Rollers fail at 3000kms then at 5000kms the inlet valves needed replacing as well as a leaky head gasket. Not to mention an electric starter that never started the bike and very rarely restarted it. The 2005FE650 5500kms bigend noisey engine rebuild done, 1500kms later the decomp lug falls of of cam gear and breaks cam chain. 2 months of lost riding time while bike is being fixed and many a ribbing from bike riding friends for buying 2 Husabergs. I now own a 2006KTM450EXC with 5500kms on it with no issues so far. I still miss my Berg and have some strange loyalty there even after all my issues. But I certainly find owning another brand cheaper on my pocket an more riding time available. I feel as though Husaberg the company really do not give a rats about there customers and that UHE takes up that GAP thankyou UHE. Does anyone else feel the same......or dare to say it here???

G'Day Factor,
Yeh I think most of us here have an idea of the troubles you have had, and it seems that you have had a b!oody bad run with them. I think anyone who had that much trouble with a brand would be very disgruntled, and I don't blame you. I think the attraction of the Berg is that they are a bit different and there isn't a lot around. A mate in our club has gone for a Sherco, partly because of the same reasons. His bike seems to be going fine as is my Berg, but we don't have enough hours on them yet to really be to judgmental. The alternative brands obviously don't have the budget for R&D like the major factories and some inherent problems are going to make it through. Having said that, I wonder if KTM has given Husaberg more R&D money to develop the new 09 model ? Lets hope so.
Shame you can't make it to the Force ride next weekend factor. Your more than welcome on the sistership KTM mate, mind you anyone is welcome, we are all looking forward to a great time no matter what you ride.
Cheers :D
Garry

I bet I have more hours on my black berg than you do. I think you've had enough to drink young fella.......
I have 2800km on mine now and all is going well.

berg berg has had no problems, what counts as no problems. i thought popping the forks seals a half dozen times a problem, what about the swing arm falling out of the thing, lucky the thing doesnt suffer from casting faults hey!!

Now then boys !!! More beer and less bickering.
Yep Mal I only have 1400km on the garage dweller !!!

Thanks factor. I think we have already started the party !!!
Keep an eye out for the pics of the ride and a report week after next.

i hear you faktor ... yes , i am one of the ones who feels cheated on . my husaberg gave me lots of grief , but good news ... i am now off the medication . the bike was a blast to ride , looked awesome , the sound of the full akra system i really miss .

i still notice the usa has no real issues .. it seems the aus spec bikes of a certain era were suspect . i wait for the 09 version ,, i am not done yet !!

Hey faktor, unreliability would make anyone switch to avoid the punishment :bash: . I have been reading over at KTMtalk they seem to be having problems too. One poster said it was starting to sound like the "Husaberg" site, with all the bearing failures, oil leaks etc. But there are ALOT more orange bikes than bergs. In '06 Yamaha had a valve recall on 250f's due to catastrophic failures, Honda's a similar story(for some). This has all been said before. Maybe you chaps down there just ride harder, in a hotter environment.

Faktor,
All over that! I have a '99. all my orange pals have new/newer bikes {oldest is a tidy'03}. So they always attack me and my yellow/blue machine. If I had their money ...I would own a '07 or '06 bike too. They ask my advice on technical matters, and I get to laugh when they have their bike in the dealers...just for tasks I can do in my sleep! Stick with Husaberg buddy....I like the comradship of the owners on here! And our bikes are certainly not as common so attract attention wherever we go!

So are KTM having engine problems if thats the case it doesnt sound to good for an 09 Berg since the engines look the same to me except spun around.

Faktor - I hear you!!!

I still hang around here keeping an eye on whats going on BUT i grew to hate my berg.

Light weight??? try a 300EXC

Easy oil filter access?? don't start me!

Being Unique??? riding a 2T brings that to the table these days

Minimalistic engineering??? can you say "two stroke"!!!! what decomp lug???

Friends with Jap bikes???? when my berg was broken, i would say "oh yeah, but I have been riding it pretty hard",..........Jap owner who races national level MX/SX "yeah well i flog my Yamaha's all year and they don't break....." dam!!!!

AND STILL I WANT TO RIDE A BERG AGAIN!!!!

BUT it has to be my second bike, i can't go through the frustration of it being broken when i need to ride.

why not dare to say things???? the internet forums are there to compare experiences and trade information.

jzfe - that was me on KTMTalk. i do think the new KTM's have some issues that should be sorted out. Keep in mind with the Yamaha valve problem - they recalled and fixed all the bikes, even if they hadn't developed a problem, AND changed the design for the next year, AND the problem didn't reappear. Berg could take a page out of that book!

I was a little disappointed to see the revolutionary new berg design was just the old motor spun around. i hope they have done a MAJOR revamp. if they still chew main bearings they are wasting my time.

Not here to bash, just agreeing with Faktor, that although I had problems, the bikes are great when they are running and are addictive. I had some great rides on my berg and would like to do some more berg rides in the future, i'm just waiting for the right time.

Hope the Force ride goes well, i would be there if i had a bike!

Have Fun
Jeff

as mentioned other manufacturers fix their problems ... and there is nothing wrong with having certain issues as long as they get resolved . to have the same problems over the years is just bs .

Speaking to a bloke yesterday who used to own a 550 sm back in 05. He bought it almost brand new and after 150 miles he said it was toast. Apparently the crank seized and it broke the casings.

I thought wow thats ****** deal

He then proceeded to tell me he came from a cbr 600 and was used to cruising a 120 without a worry, on the husaberg he was flat out at 85.
To start with he used to have sympathy and back off on long straights but it didnt last long, he said he got bored and just decided to thrash the pants off it regardless

No wonder it broke!

But who is to blame, him or the bike?

Rode my clapped out yz290f this weekend. For a thousand dollar bike I only put 1 grand in(big bore and new valves, springs and a rekluse) , it runs preety good on the tight, technical trails of hartmans, dare I say even better than the berg? Rode them back to back. Berg still spits coolant, yammi doesn't(smashed radiators too). The berg handles high speed(6 speed gear box) and open spaces MUCH better though. I am not bashing, just a fair comparison since I ride them both.
