Husaberg/ktm parts interchange?

I read Lineaweaver's post regarding whether if rotax engines have one foot in the grave on flattrack.com. He mentions that ktm's cam will drop in a Husaberg. Has anyone taken ktm engine parts and tried them on a pre 2001 Berg? About a month ago, I took a ktm cylinder and sized it up on a Husaberg lower end. The fit was pretty much perfect, like it was made for it. The only difference I could notice, is that ktm uses a little larger dowel pins. I also interchanged ktm and Husaberg heads on both makes, and the proper fit seems to be there, other than a slight size difference in dowel pin size. On the ktm head, the cam seems to be shifted over to the left about a 1/4" more. I have noticed ktm top end parts are cheaper, and they have a better cooling system. I mainly checked this because of some ktm owners refusal to believe that their engine is a Husaberg copy. Plus, I was on the lookout for potentially cheaper and more plentiful blown engines parting out parts.

Hi Brendan, cant tell you much technical stuff as i'm not a mechanic, but i have a 1990 fc501 and of the parts i have ordered, ALL came in KTM boxes. i can understand the KTM faithful thinking bergs incorporated KTM parts after the takeover but my bike is one of the first ever bergs produced, are we to understand that bergs used KTM parts back then or have they copied our engine?.... i suspect our answer would be slightly different to theirs haha.

the reason the berg parts come in ktm boxes is because all parts made by various suppliers get distributed via ktm ..
