hello, i am new to this site, and i have a plan.

i love the look af the husaberg chassis, but am still in love with the sound and light weight of the two stroke. with this in mind, i am considering mixing the two together, but am wondering how many times this has been done already, and am looking for other peoples knowledge on this matter.

i would ideally take a realatively modern chassis, say 2005 onwards, and take a ktm 200 exc engine/swingarm/shock and then mix ktm and husaberg plastics and then fabricate anything that i would need thereafter. i would need to fabricate the alloy tank, as i would go for a blue/orange mix colour scheme, and would take the loom from a ktm for the lighting etc....

if anybody has any web links/forum posts/photos of any such projects i would really appreciate them being posted here.

many thanks, matt.

Have you considered the "Dirt Rider Forum"?They seem to know about them

I've seen sites, threads and such of stuffing many Berg engines in other chassis, but I can't recall seeing it go the other way, sorry.

If you decide to start it, please consider a running thread so we can keep up with your progress :)

thanks,

I had the same thought precisely! but any of the current chassis like 2001 - 2005, and a 300exc motor, But I wouldnt change the swingarm unless necessary, and definately keep the Berg Tank, shrouds etc. etc.

man that would be fun! dont know what it would be like having a Berg with a 200 motor, just dont seem right??

Azza.

I think the 300 would be a better motor as there is "no replacement for displacement" hmmmmm maybe I can part my yz490 out and put the motor in a berg frame.Anyone got an IT490 tranny so i have a 5 speed? Now that I am 46 i don't need to go 45mph in first gear as my yz 4 speed goes............kidding about the 490 idea, but as nice as a setup as the KATOOM 300 would be fun.

Has anyone heard that WP is going out of business? Talking with a local mechanic here in Columbus area last week and he told me he read where they were going under. I haven't read anything to this effect myself, but hope this isn't the case.

Not to highjack or take this thread off on a tagent, but I've been playing with the idea of stuffing a Gas Gas 200 motor into a KX80 frame. (I'm short.)

We can start a new forum, "Crossbreeds R Us".

I thought as of the last few years that KTM owned WP.

A KTM motor in a Berg frame. You might make this person very unhappy..........

RE : WP

Hey, ford and osubuckeye....
Somewhere on one of the dirt websites, or in one of the dirtbike mags there was a brief news item about Jardine buying out WORKS PERFORMANCE (called WP occasionally). Brain a bit fuzzy, haven't been able to dig out where, when, or who for positives. Will go back and see what I can come up with.

RE: RE : WP

*********** is owned buy KTM , Works Performance is a totally different company and they are being sold !

Won´t believe this. Must be a rumor, or as drgnrydr mentioend a misunderstanding.
WP is owned by KTM - and KTM is increasing sales every year; they became worldchampion in SBK and SSP in 07 -
so why selling a profitable Company?

RE: RE : WP

hey guys(and girls?), thanks for your response, i have thought about the different engine sizes/manufacturers and came to the decision about the ktm 200 for a number of reasons. ktm was chosen for many reasons, including reliability, availability, and of course developement. they are the only manufacturer to not only still make them in sizeable numbers but they are still DEVELOPING them. most other factories stop putting money in 2 strokes years ago. and the japanese firms are pulling out or have pulled out already.

and the engine size, for the type of riding i do in the u.k. the 250 would be really good, but the 200 motor is lighter and offers comparable performance. the 300 is just too much of a handfull in the tight woods that we have locally. interestingly(perhaps) is that i currently ride a ktm125exc and find its light weight and character to be spot on!

i would need to use a ktm swingarm as husabergs have right hand drive, and ktm use left so crucially the brake and chain guide would be on the wrong sides.
the plan with the tank is so that i can use ktm orange rad panels on the berg chassis, so i would have blue front and rear mudguards, and orange rad panels/headlight/fork guards, and end up with a balance of blue and orange. the alloy and steel fabrication would be no problem, as i am a motorport developement engineer, and do this type of fabrication work on cars day in day out.

I must argue Gas Gas has a very reliable, available, still being developed (and manufactured in somewhat large numbers), 200cc 2 stroke. Which, I might add, I find superior to the KTM 200 engine in power delivery.

Plus, think of the "Huh?" factor when you tell people you have a HusaGas or a GassaBerg. :D

Anyhow, good luck with the exotic exotic. We want step by step photos and updates.

odd retro fit

I have a it490 motor with a yz490 gear box in a husqvarna te610 frame bit of mucking around was fun to do (wouldnt do again being that the chain was on the other side but i fixed that up,goes hard reliable and all the good stuff of the 610 to boot.
thought this might be interesting

RE: odd retro fit

cool, have you got any photos? mostly interested in the way you sorted the chain side issue and the airbox. many thanks.
