Husaberg FS 650 E 2004. cylinder liner

Hi to all,

After oil & antifreeze change, I rode bike for 20 mins and it shut down, rear wheel locked. When trying to kickstart it, kickstarter was not hard (low compression). Managed to start it, white smoke was coming from exhaust. When engine is opened, piston and cylinder where damaged. Liner is aftermarket part, machined from iron. The biggest concern is this: when I order new liner, what is position of top of the liner comparing to the top end of the block (cylinder)??? Should it be leveled with the block, or little bit higher, so head can compress it together with the gasket? Btw, head was inspected, tested, it is OK, flattened a bit, valves are OK too. I can not find factory data about this height of cylinder liner comparing to the block.
Also, what should be the clearance between iron liner and alu piston? Some say 0.0035, or 0.0045? or just the same as for alu liner 0.002?

Thanks in advance for any kind of help, advice...

check the liner for a crack.. dont think an iron liner would crack but check around the outside of the liner at the top just under the big flange, thats where the alloy ones crack

liner protrusion 0.05mm is about right but are you at 100mm bore or bigger?

if bigger read http://husaberg.org/mechanical/11677-jbs-700-kit-welded-80mm-crank.html

toward the end is what i did to get the headgasket to work

1 thou per inch of bore diam is good for clearance add half a thou to the total if you reckon youre going to stress it out immensely

Had a similiar incident on mine. Just when i bought it. It died and lost compression. Turned out it was one of The valves that lost its setting as The stop (screw or what its called in english) loosened. Had to grind some on The valve top, set valves and i was back in business.
