O.K. here is probably a dumb question, but what is the difference in the anit diving clutch and a recluse/revloc clutch? does it only slip during braking? or does it eliminate the need for a clutch lever like recluse? I have heard that Lafferty has been using the anti diving ktm clutch in the woods, no engine braking and no killing the engine with the brake.

well bergy

i run the rekluse. i could run with a clutch lever but i choose not too. the bike uses ball bearings thrown out to lock the drive and go. when there aren't enough revs the bike freewheels.

so it's an auto clutch essentially. it does de celerate a little when you close the throttle and don't brake. if you brake then the mechanism will go into freewheel.

the anti hop stuff i believe is so that when you slam down through the box coming into a turn you don't get hopping and juddering. that's all it's designed to do -that one job. otherwise it works as per a normal clutch.

I too am interested in the slipper clutch. I believe they are being used in the dirt now , not just on the tar. From what I have heard is that they reduce engine braking and therefore diving in corners. My last bike was a KTM300EXC two stroke. My bike now is an FE550e. The biggest thing to get used to was the engine braking and diving in the tight stuff. If the 550 handled a bit more like a two stroke when getting off the power and turning, it would be even more of a weapon. I just want to know if a slipper clutch actually does this and if it is worth the expense!

as taffy says the slipper clutch allows you to go down thru the gears without locking up the rear wheel. other than that it is a normal clutch.
builders are realising that this is also important off rd due to the much less grip than on tarmac means its much easier to lock the wheel.
as far as i'm aware gasgas are the only ones that come with a slipper clutch as standard on a 4st

Dale installed a slipper in my FS650 (along with a very trick quickshifter) and you still have the same ammount of engine braking when you let off the gas, but when you bang down gears flying into a turn (on pavement) it stops the intense wheel hop and alows you to "back it in" with less drama. It's a virtual MUST have on a big single.

One other bene to a slipper (anti-hop) is that you can charge into a 3rd gear turn in 6th gear and downshift to 3rd early and have both feet freed up to put out and still have controlled engine breaking.
