I need help solving a leak I have on my bike. I got it from a kid that had ran the bike with very little oil and locked up the push rod for the clutch. I know there is internal problems because every time I do an oil change (daily) I see so much metal particles. On the side where the ignition system is, there is a slow to medium leak. Can some one tell me if it normal, a bearing , or a seal? Thanks for your help. I am currently waiting on the specialty tools. I don't know these bikes that well but I am a mechanic. Thanks again.

priority one would be to find the source of the metal in your oil if it's as bad as you say. pulling the cam cover and inspecting cam follower bearings and cam chain would be a good start and requires no special tools.
does the oil leak come from inside the flywheel cover?
what do you mean " locked up the push rod for the clutch"?

funny the first day I log on in a year I see a post from a guy who I assume is the owner of my old bike, lol....

didn't you get the flywheel remover tool? I had it in the box of junk I sold with the bike I think...

I remember having an issue with the three bolts that hold the stator down loosening and leaking, youll have to remove the flywheel to get to them, I had a small hole drilled in the bottom black ignition cover, if this where the oil is coming from?

how much metal in the oil are you getting? every bearing and seal in the engine had been replaced but with it being ran like that you never know...that kid was such a tard, I realized shortly after when he called me with an issue he wasn't going to be a good fit for that bike...

Bergini, I am so happy to see that you signed in today! I was tempted to text you but then reread you said that was a one time thing. I saw that the last date you signed it was my birthday when I was having troubles with the clutch... Anyway I looked through the parts boxes the other day knowing what I was looking for but I couldn't find the flywheel puller. The leak is coming from the whole you drilled in the stater cover. I also have coolent leeking from somewhere and I have oil that seems to be condensing on the engine from either the frame filter or the exhaust. I have about 300 more miles from the clutch and about 15 oil changes. Really trying to get that metal out. It is the finest metal particles. I don't mind putting the time or money into the bike because it is so cool to me, I just want to do it right. Also when I start it the timing chain seems to slap or something. I just want to get the bike back in perfect condition and keep it in perfect condition.

Okay so here is where I am at: first, I found the flywheel puller, good now I have two. Next I took I the stater magnet part off. Everything in there was working because it was providing me with power and keeping my battery charged but it will be a total loss. I will post some pictures today. The bolts came out and were moving all around and smashed everything up. The engine case seems to have possible damage. I am not sure how significant it will be but it doesn't look good. I don't know how it would get into the engine but the magnetic particles look like what is in the engine.

yea you will want to be really carefull with everything in there and try to salvage all possible, those stators are hard to come by as are the flywheels, if you can salvage it that would be ideal im sure, its normal for people to to put laters of epoxy over all that stuff to keep them together....the bolts that go into the stator are a very short headed bolt just keep that in mind if you need to find replacement bolts, I tried other bolts but they all contacted inside the flywheel so I had to use the stock flathead ones....those were screwed up when I got the bike so don't blame me haha....

that frame filter idea really didn't work as good as I thought it would have....it just seems to get so much oil in there and it turns to film on the frame I did notice that, in the tube from the engine into the frame there is a piece of filter media that I don't think is doing the job well, maybe a cloth filter on the top of the frame under the seat would work better...there is also pieces of screen in that tube from the engine to the frame so beware of that if/when you take it out...

Do you think that filter could be what I had found in the oild screen when I was reding the clutch? Can I use locktight on the flathead bolts?. Also the holes are really warped so I don't know if he'll go back in. I found them outside their holes. One had a lot of apoxy on it but it seemed to full a wide gap almost double the bolt hole. Any ideas on the coolent? I did just replace it so it might have just expanded too much, but I couldn't tell for sure.

hhhm, I guess possibly I forgot about that, I wouldn't have thought that stuff would have came apart like that but maybe?? yea I would use locktite on the bolts as long as its the oil reistant kind, that sucks the holes are warped, that would expain why they fell out again...if definatly wasn't like that when I sold it so idk what to say on it with the holes being that big....it wouldn't have been epoxy maybe if it was blue dried locktite?? or some kind of silicone I don't remember what I used last, no idea on the coolant leak, I know right after startup and through the first couple initial drives I had a little bit (like a drop) from the silicone base gasket on the right rear corner of engine but it went away and never came back..i also had a random drip from the neon yellow bolt on the water pump cover but I sealed that and it never came back as long as I had it.......the only other place I could think of right off hand was the radiator overflow bung near the radiator cap, its kind of a crappy two piece design, like it just sits in there and the radiator overflow hose attaches to it...I think I had that epoxied in place because it didn't fit perfectly tight.....idk hope that all makes sense and helps.....

if you ever cant contact me here send me an email, im going to pm you my email address
