Hi. I'm new here. Thinking of buying a 2004 FE450e for adventure riding in New Zealand and was wondering what people thought of their performance, reliability and longevity on the road both tar and gravel?? Adventure rides here usually require riding to and from the ride and include tar, gravel, forestry and farmland. Are they ok for this kind of use or better just as trail bikes? The other bikes on my shortlist are the KTM525exc or the DRZ400e.
Any help much appreciated.
Andy.

it all depends what you want from your riding.

from what you describe the drz would probably be the best one to go for, but the doesn't mean its the best bike or the one you'll have most fun on.

Them KTMs are good bikes, I traded in A 2002 520 for my Husaberg. I put aloda loda miles on that KTM including a 5 mile pin on pavement to the track almost daily. 1 set of real streaty tires once. I think it about the break-in, there wasn't alot of compresion in the engin after the first rebuild. I think thats what gets ya on pavement.
My new Husaberg hasn't seen pavement yet, but I hope it acts the same with a proper break-in.

Have purchased a KTM 525Exc with both dirt and motard set ups. Thanks for replies.
