Husaberg fe400 crank.

Hello. I have a husaberg fe400 from 2001.
The engine has 15h since assembly. But now i have noticed that the crank floats 0.9mm axial. I have ballbearing mains, no rollers. Something dosent feel right.. the bike runs great.. and sounds sweet to. What to do? Is the crank slipping in my mainbearings?
 
the float is more than normal but the answer is to feel if you can for smoothness in the bearings. also, if really concerned, you should remove the oil seals and make an imnspection.

the next thing i do is grab the end of the crank with my biggest "pat jennings" hand I can make and try and shake the crank up and down.

I run 0.8mm crank float by design to allow my crank to centre itself nicely and allow to flex.
I think the concensus when i was researching my build was up to 1mm of float was OK. I went with roller bearings to help this.

Your float however can only either be the crank slipping inside the bearings, or faulty bearings. And if they run smooth then surely it's the former.

I had also read somewhere that some people linished the inside of the bearings to make that float happen on purpose.
It's worth reading the main bearing thread on here to get a idea of different approaches.

Taffy's suggestion of physically looking at the bearings with seals out seems the best place to start however.
You can always paint mark the crank both ends with the seals out, then knock it side to side and check for sure that the float your getting is between crank and inner race, not anywhere else.

Thanks! I have looked this over a bit today. The crank nöjes supersmooth in and out. Used the gauge to check for play in the flywheel up and down. But no, dosent move a bit.
The bike is a supermoto, no counter balancer, just a spacer on the crank. Someone has probably made the mains slip on the crank for a reason?
