Hi
I'm starting my little rebuild thread
(some example of my earlier work if anyone is interested:
my husqvarna- Husqvarna Wr 125 1999 Photos by Urban501 | Photobucket
my yamaha- Yamaha Dt 80 MXS 1985 Photos by Urban501 | Photobucket )

Here is where all the photos from this rebuild will be : Husaberg 501 2002 Photos by Urban501 | Photobucket

I will disassembled the bike completely (i wont touch the suspension this time-most likely i'll do it after this season) , clean it,
do some mods , and replace & fix every thing i can- nothing fancy
it's not going to be big rebuild like on other bikes i did
cause parts cost more and now we've got 2 bikes- 2 bergs to be more specific :D )

About the bike- i bought it few months back with like 2900km on the clock (?) it looked nice but been siting for like 4-5 years in a garage
not used - i've done few hundreds km and i cant stand it anymore
i have to take it apart and know what i have

Right now i,ve got most of the bike disassembled, engine
is of the frame cylinder head is off, cases are split up
they were some sad surprises :
-all bearings are junk from sitting this few years in old oil or from mechanical damages
-there is no balancer !
-piston is junk
-nicasil is damaged
-carters are damaged from old balancer

First pats sprague and sledge, rear shock from hacker33

Hi
Good to see others attempting rebuilds of old 501s. I'm about to start my basketcase 501 -01. Bought it in bits. Bigend gone, but the guy Didnt know how to brake it and was doing it to a pre -00 manual.
All bearings in my engine were shot too exept mains.
Will replace the lot. Anything else I should pay close attention to as I never worked on Husa before ?

Hi everybody
I'm back in the workshop for now  or to be more specific
back to working on my bergs sorry for not posting anything
but i didn't have time to work on them
( in the meantime i bought another bike for the project not berg this time Fantic Motor Oasis 80 by Urban501 | Photobucket )

Lollo you have to pay special attention to everything
this a husaberg (making mechanics out of riders since 1989)
not some boring Japanese bike :p

Back to the 501 i've ordered parts from taffy and "local" dealer
disassembled cleaned an verified gearbox it's totally fine this
circlips can be real pain in the *** if you wanna be delicate

unscrewing one of the reed valve screws required a
lot of force so i'm making sure that thread is fine

IMG_0726_zpseqbdc1lq.jpg

New steel liner next to old one which probably i'm going to
regenerate and put on the shelf for another time also new
wossner piston with ceramic coating so the piston
won't transfer so much heat into the crank
i hope

IMG_0732_zpsxpgxkewe.jpg

some new foams for the frame and seat they are like almost 100PLN
a piece in the dealership- i'm not paying 100pln for a piece of foam
i'm gonna do it myself but i've never been to good with folk
art paper cutting ;)

That's it for now thanks for reading, regards
Urban

Haha, you and I seem to have had all the same issues with the engine/bike (even the frame foam). I gave in and bought the stock foam (for like $7). It is too expensive, but I just wanted to get the bike going without messing around anymore.

When I did my rebuild I videotaped everything with a forehead mounted GoPro. My main computer subsequently died, so I am not about to edit the video on the laptop at the moment. Also, it's riding season so who has time for video editing!

I got parts from taffy's, and i'm not 100% pleased cause
tensioner blade is "modified" very sloppy on a grinder
but i will use it for now maybe next time i will do
modification myself on a milling machine.
Also i bought auto deco springs and auto deco shaft from
next year models.

Originally 2001 and some of 2002 bergs were fitted with alloy
cam sprocket so did my berg but previous owner after
a party in a cylinder head fitted a steel sprocket
( there are good sings that the party was big- new cam chain, one of
the rocker arms with roller, sprocket there are sings on the camshaft too and one of the valves was damaged).

So to fit the part 59036016000 instead of 20027401 i had to
machine my camshaft because part number 200 274-01 is about
2mm longer than newer 59036016000 (it's 2.5mm longer but 0.5mm is
on the weight side not the actual autodeco shaft)

This is part number 59036016000 - 36.72mm:

This original 20027401 - 39.21mm

The orginal 20027401 :

The 59036016000 doesn't reach the cam lobe :

You can notice machined area were the auto deco shaft is fitted
it doesn't come out of the sprocket like it us too :
