I don't have a spark in my FE470, where do I need to start checking to fix the problem? Bike was working perfect the last time I rode it, battery is charged, starter works good
first of all, check which stator you have? you can undo the inspection bung and get that info. if you see a black shiny stator in the lower half of the hole it is the OEM unit called a SEM stator. these short out quite easily and used to be worth repairing but probably not from the USA.
there are 6 wires coming out of it and you need to check the green to black for 165 ohms which you should have and then check the red to black for 2,700 ohms and this is the one that fails. you can do the following kicking with the orange kill wire disconnected and sealed with tape.
also, spark is a strange thing, especially when a new owner. even my own mechanics couldn't get a spark on a perfectly good bike.
place bike on a jack-in-the-box stand or a solid platform.
only kick with an MX boot on.
pull the plug.
take off the plug cap.
never look yourself but get someone to hold the HT lead 8-10mm from the cylinder stud.
don't jump to kick (big old british bike).
don't paddle with your arse at the back of the bike (2T)
bend down with your ribs carressing the top of your quad near the knee and fire your leg out with power (strength x speed).
If kaputt, get a new one from a reputable dealer as people have been buying Chinese and they don't work and nobody yet has got their money back.
cheers
