Husaberg 650 power characteristics

I have searched the net high and low, but still come up with nothing.
I have a ADB mag bigbore review and I down loaded the dirtaction review also.

What I really wanted to know is what the power characteristics are like for each bike. Things like is the 650 a bottom end grunt machine with no top end, or is it smooth and linear from top to bottom?

I know the best thing I could do is throw a leg over one, but that isn't possible. I live in a small town, the closest bike shop is like 1000 miles away. There is no husabergs in town, just a couple of ktm 525's. I myself have a nicely modded '05 WR450F, but power just aint enough.

I am looking at the 650 (bigger is better!) but if it has no top end, I will have to look at the 550.

Now that Husaberg is fairly reliable (at least that's the impression I get) I think it is a good time to make the jump.

Thanks in advance, great website here!

Matty.

I picked up my 2007 Fe650e last week Friday 4th August. I was a bit reluctant trading my modded 2001 CR500 in on it, but threw caution in the wind.

I thought that running it in and keeping it below 50% power (for the first 3 hours) was going to be a major pita, but soon found out otherwise.

Today was the first time I took it out and started using up to about 75% power, and went riding with a buddy who is also on a CR500, so it was nice to draw some comparisons.

The 650 has huge amounts of torque in 1st and 2nd even in the lower rev range (im 1.91m tall and 135kg's) and the power just keeps on coming throughout mid and higher up. From 3rd gear on it quickly leaves the CR500 in a dust storm. It pulls very strongly in 4th and 5th, it is however pointless changing to 6th if you not close to the limiter in 5th.

I have taken her to 140km/h in 5th gear with 6th still to spare, but my courage ran out!

Hope this helps.

The 650 engine might not have the top end rush of smaller displacement engines but it offers meaty hp & torque numbers over a wide rev range starting at just 4k rpm. There's little need to rev the engine to the moon for more acceleration, like you might have to do with smaller engines.

husabergs are for the discerning owner. it's rude to ask how quickly it goes. mr royce says the performance is adequete and that if you have to ask - this isn't the vehicle for you...

i'm sorry but this really is typical of the kinda question i can't hack!

i'll leave it there.

we all knew when they became reliable that this kind of question would come up and tonight i've got three threads infront of me all asking these questions.

can't we encourage you to get a yamaha?

My 98 FE501 grunts away from a WR450. A FE550 has more grunt again and revs pretty hard as well. the 650 I hope to order soon grunts even harder, change up in the mid range, hook up and drive away from everything else out there.

I have about 300 miles on my 650 and the two words that come to mind from everyone who see's it, here's it, or rides it, is "BAD ***!" :D

I too could not make up my mind, the 550 or 650. Im glad I got the 650, it has awsome power :D

Thanks mate, the bike looks like it makes nice broard power! Looks like you got it jetted pretty sweet too!

Cheers,

The 550 has power more suitable for moto or WORCS type racing. The 650 is more for the open desert. I have tested the two back to back and the 650 is a bit much in the tight stuff for me. 6ft and 210lbs.
The 550 is a little more angry if you ask me,but both bikes will do over 100. I am sure the 550 is much quicker say 0 to 50 and the 650 takes over from that point, but not by much if any.

I have to admit the 650 is a bit much for the tight supermoto tracks and tight off road stuff. For me the real fun starts when I'm lucky enough to lay into 4th gear and our local tracks SM are mostly 2-3rd gear oriented. The Sears Point (Infineon) kart track and street/canyon rides are the few places where I can get the 650 to stretch its legs.

The right engine size often depends on its intended purpose. The 450's are best for small SM tracks or tight off road stuff. 550's for more open tracks and terrain and 650's, umm well you get the idea.

Don't bet on it :D Getting out of the hole quickly is best done with torque, not an extra 1,000 rpm higher redline

Matty,
The 650 makes a ton of torque off the bottom...much more than a 525KTM, but it also revs like a monster. You will not believe it's an 80mm stroke when you hear one for the first time. Trust me when I tell you this ain't no LC4 or XR-R! It has a great top end punch.

taff

you are in essence ' out of order ' on this one .

but you will always be my main man [ snivel ]
