Husaberg 650 Fe 2004 Spring valves broken...and got into cyl

Hi.
I just bought a 650 fe 04 from my local dealer (In Mexico...) a few days ago.
I have less than 3 hours of use and the valve`s spring just got broken...and something got into the cylinder....making all the worst thing you can imagine.

the bike is mounted with slick tires and i just use it on the street...When it happened i was going at my office, so i never compete with it, and was just going normally until teh rear wheel stopped...I clutch and stop the bike, did nothing else.

The dealer opened the engine and is telling me that i did abuse of the bike, and as it is a competition bike there is no warranty what so ever even if it was new...

I have read that some of you have had this problem... I wanted to know if Husaberg had recognize the problem and take it into warranty...

Or if i can argue to my dealer that it's a service fault...he should have change the springs before selling the bike (he did use it personally more than a 100 hours...).

the thing is i haven`t see in the owner manual that you have to change them every "x" hours...

hope your comments...i`m so desperate to see the bike like this after just 3 hours of practice...

What can i do?

Pierre

hello pierre

i feel sorry for you mate and saying welcome to UHE doesn't really help you much i'm afraid.

i have just checked my owner's book from 2002 and it doesn't mention the springs being changed. it recommends changing EVERYTHING else but not the springs.

however, they have a bad reputation for breaking all the time i'm afraid. i would recommend that you convert the bike to a kibblewhite set of springs which you can buy as available for ktm 400s and 525s. $200 - ebay.

here is a thread i started on the subject a month ago:
http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?name= ... +red+alert

also simon started a thread last night where you can see a u tube video of valve bounce and float. look at that. http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?name= ... 8954#78954

as regards the springs and should they be changed, unless it's recommended that they be changed you don't have a leg to stand on. and it appears they don't.

it's going to cost you a lot of money to have it rebuilt i'm afraid and if i were you i would cut a deal whereby everything is supplied trade and that way you are recouping VALUE. because when it's done you want to go 2 years without touching it.

regards

Taffy

You often think that if you have sold something you are rid of it. That is very true, but consider this:
Suppose that some of the silver you pay'd, that both you and the dealer believed to be good silver at the time, proved to be not so good after all, a lot less valuable silver alloy than any of you expected. I can tell you he would return to you to get things corrected. Why wouldn't he? He would because it would be the right thing to do and you would apologize because it would be the right thing to do and you would give him real silver or more of the less valuable silver alloy to balance so that the spirit of the original deal got fulfilled because it would be the right thing to do and it would correct things to become what both of you intended in the first place. If you didn't have the silver you'd give the bike back and he'd give you the bad silver back to simply reverse the deal. You'd feel disappointment because you now got back bad silver that is not as valuable as the bike but it would be the right thing to do since this was the bad silver you gave him.

Likewise he should not be as surprised if you returned to him for correction if the bike proved to be not as valuable as any of you believed at the time of sale.
Does the dealer lie when saying you abused the bike or is that actually true? If he lies about the abuse he can very likey have lied about that he knew the valve springs were all good at the time of sale.
Taffy, who undoubtly knows a lot about these things, seems to imply that these springs sometimes can be bad and can break, then how can your dealer imply that they were all good and can not break unless the bike is abused?
I'd think that already at the time of the sale one of the springs was bad and a failure destined to happen and that none of you knew, neither you or the dealer. So?, was the bike as valuable as both you and the dealer thought?

If you actually abused it you abused it and he is right and he can keep his good silver with good consience and let you stand there with your abused motor.

Regards

my main bearing broke after 3hours aswell,i just got the bike and had that.
all came to my own expences :?
that's just bad luck, but from now on...fun fun fun :D
get it fixed and enjoy your husa! 8)

ciao,hannes.

In the 2003 owners manual it states to change the valve springs very 100hrs or 50hrs if its be used hard.
In the 04 owners manual it just says to check the length every 90hrs or 45hrs if used hard.

As Taffy said, they do break.
