Husaberg 570 FE VS KTM EXC 530

ITALY
Hi all,
I am new of this forum and while I ask you my question, I'll introduce myself. I live in Italy, Milan, and after many bikes I finally landed to a marvellous KTM 690 Enduro R, I love off-road bikes...this year I went to Tunisia for 10 days of desert and I felt in love with it.
Now I want to sell my KTM for for a lighter bike and i was thinking of two alternatives KTM 530 or FE 570...I'll use it only on week-ends for some light-medium off road..nothing really tough and somethimes even road (30-40 miles transfers), but i want to make sure that reliability will not be an issue...I know KTM 530 because a friend of mine got one and is quite happy of it. The 570 is a question mark for me as in Italy is still very rare to see it.
Moreover as I will go to Africa - Libia - and generally I'll use it for desert riding a couple of times a year, my biggest issues are:
-Efi, does it work well? does it have a kick start as optional? Because what can happen if you have Efi problens in the desert...with the ktm 530 (carburettor) you could work on it...whith Efi?
- Fuel tank, in the power parts do you have a bigger one?
- any other reliability issues?

Other then this doubts i think this is a wonderful off-road bike.

Thanks very much to all the people who'll answer.

Ciao :bounce3:

I have owned both Husabeergs and KTMs and currently have one of each. In answer to which bike would be better for what you want to do, if it were me I'd go with the KTM just because of the large tank availibity - Acerbis makes a 6 gallon tank for the KTM (at least they did for models a couple of years ago). I have no experience with Husaberg's fuel injection but I wouldn't think it is any different than your KTM690 in terms of reliabilty. I have never experienced any problems with the several street bikes I've owned with fuel injection and my current Suzuki DL1000 has gone 25,000 miles totally trouble-free, and some of that has been off-pavement. I do wish there was a large tank for the new Husabergs in the 4-6 gallon range.

I think new model ('09 and later) reliability is equal to or greater than KTM reliability (of the same displacement class).

First, from what I have read, many of the parts are the same, especially from the cylinder up, and other parts are very similar only being changed a bit to work with the new configuration.

Second, they are both made in the same factory?

Third, I have been told by a dealer that has looked inside both the KTMs and new Hussys coming off the line, that the finish inside the new Hussys seems a little better than KTMs in his opinion (i.e., flashing/castings cleaned up better and so on).

Fourth, I think the design is better.

Finally, overall, I think there have been very few problems that people have had with the new bikes. Some minority of owners have had some problems with some components (final disposition of which is still to be worked out - e.g., fuel pumps), and the majority who have had systemic problems (heat from the exhaust) have found workarounds and for the most part the problems haven't been something you couldn't live with. E.G., I am having my exhaust wrapped and heat shields applied to my tank because I think in the long run this is probably a good thing to do - not because it is causing any problems right now.

Between 70 Degree Racing's subframe tank and Aqualine's two aux. tanks, you can carry up to 8 gallons well distributed on the new Husabergs. Additionally, you can mix and match as you see fit, and remove or add the two Aqualine tanks as you need or don't need them for certain types of rides. All aux. tanks do not replace the stock tank, which is nice IMO.

Anyway you go about it, the fuel tank situation for the new Husabergs is great IMO. Not many other bikes of this type have these kinds of options to carry that much fuel without spending a lot of money and effort for custom one-off tanks.

As a previous owner (2 years hard off-road) of KTM 530 and as a current owner of highly (big money) modified FE570 09'-I would say-Go with KTM! Sure it is pretty ordinary bike: it has kick starter, doesn't look so fancy and doesn't behave like a boat-rocking back and forth all day long

I wish the KTM 690 FI was just like the Bergs! The Husaberg FI is about a million times smoother than the KTM 690!

I think you'll be fine with either bike. I have a lot of trouble free miles on my FE570. The only issues i've had, were sorting out the suspension and an EFI issue that was more than likely rider error. The only valid agruement against the Berg is the lack of a kick starter.

My FE 570 Husaberg has been an exceptionally great bike with over 6000 miles of hard use the bike has been perfect. I ride desert in the winter and high mountain trails in the summer. I have dual sported the bike with 300 miles on some trips which included trails and dirt roads, works great if set up right. The EFI has been spot on. Replaced the water pump seal at 4000 miles, no big deal!
With a spring change on the rear for my light weight, Sikolene fork and shock oil and alittle common sense with sag adjustments, compression and rebound settings the suspension and handling is great, better than most bikes I have owned. I've had many KTM's my last was a 2009 450xc worked O-K but the fueling and suspension were not as good as the new Husaberg's. The KTM has a heaviness to it's handling even though the bikes weigh about the same.
This kick start thing is interesting. Next time I'm looking for a new truck I will be sure to ask for one with a hand crank in case the battery goes dead :bounce3: :bounce3: :bounce3:
You ask / this is my first hand information
Have a great ride

I have owned both and the KTM was nice but the berg is outstanding. Had alot of engine trouble with the 530, noisey cam chain tentioner, blew up at 39hrs, always a bitch to start on the button (even after all the mods), carby vs fuel injection and as codemonkey said the finish inside the engine is alot better. Also the oil is all in one on the berg, the 530 loved to burn oil even after it was rebuilt.
In short i have never had a problem with my berg i have just over 8000k's and it is still like new.

If I may jump in here and ask about Husabergs also, I am currently a 2007 KTM RFS 450 xcw rider and am starting to look for my next bike. I like the looks and rarity of the Husabergs with what seems like the reliability of a KTM.

Some questions:

Parts. How available are they? My local KTM dealer can't get Berg parts and I don't see any online.

Aftermarket. Is there a good A/M support for these? I notice GPR doesn't make a mount for the Bergs nor can I get a Stealth rear sprocket for it in blue.

Stock stuff. Do these 2009 and up Bergs have any of the same problems as the KTM's did? (rings, cam chain tensioner, oil transfer problem, etc?)

Thx for any info!

I just got a 2011 570 3 month ago and I just got off of a ktm I whent in to get a new 530 but after taking a ride on the Berg well you know .Now with that said
I think you need to find a new dealer all KTM dealers can get part also from what I have found out the berg dos NOT have the same problems that the new 530s do and yes there are aftermarket parts out not as many as the KTM but they are out there and Scott makes a sub and top mount so dos RTT

My nearest Husaberg dealer is 5.5 hours away. I do have local KTM dealerships which I will use when time is critical, but generally I order everything on-line. I haven't had to do any repair yet, but I have been adding accessories (guards, blinkers, tall seat, etc) and it is pretty easy to find plenty of choices.

I think about 80% (just a guess) of the parts are KTM parts and have KTM part numbers. So I don't think parts availability is an issue.
