having an issue with my 2005 450,

Whenever i touch the positive to the battery to connect it up, it starts sparking and trying to tick over, it was in gear at the time and even started spinning the chain, what's most likely to be the issue?

Thanks in advance!

First thing disconnect your starter switch. Then try it. Not knowing this bike I I'd start there.

ayup, +1 on rainierio

do you have a multimeter? ohm-test or beep-test the switch (can be done on the plug or if probably if you screw the switch apart (watch for small flying bits?)

that said, my 570's starter lurched the bike when I somehow prodded/pushed what I believe is the starter relay in the fuse/electronics compartment, I assume the relaay can close if it's squeezed somehow

it suggests that the starter solenoid is 'open' and that the four wires into here are wrong.

I don't have a complete bike here at present but I'M SURE SOMEONE HERE CAN TELL YOU THE ORDER OF THE 4 WIRES INTO IT CAN'T YOU LADS...................

there is also an M and B on the solenoid. check that the battery wire goes to the B and the other post has the wire to the starter motor.

regards

Taffy
