Husaberg 2007 FE450E frustration

Hi all

Back in July 2015 I had some work done to my newly acquired FE450E ..
Starter motor repair kit was fitted as were new carb parts including tuning kit plus other work to the top end of the motor including cam chain, valves, dual valve springs and clutch parts and some other parts too.

The bike ran like a dream the day I picked it up from the mechanics..started on the button first time...and first time only ..!..after that the starter motor would not turn the engine over at all it just span without engaging ..!

Trying not to be disheartened I used the kick start instead ..for the very few times i used it it started first time every time cold or hot using choke or hot start
the problem now is that the carb floods.. when the fuel is turned on the float chamber fills and fuel flows from the overflow at the bottom of the carb. I can just about start it from cold .. and once its running it flies ..loads of power and pulls like a train..cant fault it .. but if i stall it and try and restart it floods badly and i have to kick it stupidly ...as for the starter motor I'm at a loss..
I have been advised that it could be the float valve and seat and that i need to order a new one but I'm having trouble identifying the carb ..im assuming its an FCR MX carb but what choke size is it ..been looking at manuals but can't find any info ...any advice would be great thanks..so frustrating now because i can't ride it ..

Best wishes

Adam

I think your float is sticking. Try tapping the cab bowl with a screwdriver before or after you turn on the gas ...this might help. Do you store the bike with gas in the carb? It could be gumming up. I always put a storage additive in if I'm leaving it or run it dry or drain it.
Can't help you with the starter. I've removed all of mine.

I had the same issue with my 07 450 over flowing, I need a new needle and seat, it takes the 3.8.

If the starter is just spinning it is probably the Sprague bearing (Free Wheel) and / or perhaps the Torque limiter.

The float height adjustment may need to be checked. The FCR is a finicky thing when it comes to float height adjustment and the ritual to set it is a bit strange the first time you do it. Good chance the Float Needle Valve as Oregon Trail mentioned is worn causing you grief.

Thank you for the replies

I will order a new float needle and seat to see if this is the problem .. It's worth saying though that a new one was fitted along with new jets only four rides ago .. Haven't even used two full tanks of petrol ..

Just to confirm ...

The carb for the 2007 FE450E is the FCR MX 39
The float needle and seat 3.8 ?

Thank you

Adam

Take your old needle out and have a look at it to see there are no marks on it first, because as you said it's new. Check the float level while your there. Make sure everything is put together right and the float is not catching.

I agree with Oregon Trail replace the float valve and needle, had one go bad
and ran as you describe, can ruin the bore very quickly by washing the oil off.
The needle and seat looked fine too, so get a new one.
Float level should not need adjusting unless someone has already played with it.

Thanks for the advice so far

I'm having difficulty finding a diagram that shows how to check and set correct float height ..the links posted above don't illustrate it for some reason ..

Thank you

Adam
