How's the BERG stack up to the Aprilia?

When I bought my Berg I did so very reluctantly because I was deeply in love with an Aprilia SXV550. I struggled against common sence and finally it prevailed and I didn't buy Aprilia. When left with a decision on what to buy I came across Husaberg because one of the Utube videos of the SXV was filmed on a 650 Berg and it was having no probs matching the Aprilia around the track.
So any real world riders compete or otherwise ride their Bergs around these hot little italians? I am still in love with them but considering I haven't even had the time to ride my 650C yet I don't think I will be getting an SXV unless I win the lottery. But I would like to know. So many DYNO myths around the SXV550 as well. Can't find an agreed number for rear wheel horse power.

RE: How

I wouldn't touch the R/SXV with a 10 foot pole, they're ticking time bombs, and severely service intensive - and to be honest, it's a twin that offers little over the similarily sized thumpers.

Nah...overly complicated and clumsy compared to the bergs (or any other proper enduro racer).

/J - I do love my RSV Mille though, but that's something completely different... :D

RE: How

I can't say much about the sxv, or about reliability, but i've seen plenty of rxv's in action offroad, at WEC and ISDE's. They are powerhouses, much more than the single cylinder machines, which makes them a serious handfull to competantly operate the bike at race speeds. I know plenty of poeple who drool over the bikes as a dual sport bike, but the fuel range kinda kills that thought.

What I know about the berg is that the dealer network that is set up is knowledgeable, the bike has been stone reliable for some time. Corner Grass Racing Team raced a 650 c last winter in a 6 hr endurance ice racing series here in Alberta and won the overall with the bike. So I think you are much further ahead with the berg, since there is a significant level of racing knowledge and experience with the bike. Your Aprilia is purely relying on dealer and distributor knowledge, which will be a trickle down. Racing experience will be next to nothing in Canada.

I hope this helps, if you need some help, pm me

cheers

RE: How

Just to clear up any confusion...I bought the Husaberg FS650C already...I just am really curious about how it actually stacks up to the Aprilia. The guys that have the RXV/SXV's just never stop talking about how sick they are and how nothing else even comes close as far as power goes. Thanks!

RE: How

So they are just smack talking....you'll just have to go lay waste on them!!!!! PM Nizzo, he's the ice race fiend.

just to clear more up

Some of Aprilia horror stories are stories of the past. The issues that have come up previously have been updated and the bikes are very good. There is a reason why the SXV5.5 was the fast MC up Pikes Peak by 23 seconds. Maintenance intensive?..not so, sure there are more valves to adjust, however, oil changes and valve adjustments are required less on their twin than the 08 and earlier bergs. That being said we also love our FE650e....an amazingly fast yet grunt fiilled machine, whereas the RXV/SXV has very little luggability.

RE: just to clear more up

I seem to recall a piston change around 60 odd hours, that's 2 pistons folks...and I know of an enduro tour type company over here that I think had to pull the plug, because they went from Husaberg to Aprilia, and the bikes couldn't take it, they fell apart more or less.

...and the fact that there was always an RXV in for some kind of engine work when I went by my local Aprilia dealer...

Nah, overly complicated, clumsy and not very reliable, that's the image I've gotten of them. :)

True on double the pistons, etc, however, in actuallity, the Berg recommended Main Bearing, Counter Balancer, rebuild is around the same time...of course, that all depends on how hard someone rides the bike...I've seen alot more hours on some bergs before having to go ino the motor, and I've seen where a customer opted to perform the 60 hour interval and it was completely unnecessary...
