How to remove the gas tank from an 04 FE450

Hey all -

I need to remove the gas tank to run some wiring from the new X2 HID to teh battery, and can't figure out how to remove the fuel tank.

I probably could have finagled my way through it but it was time to come in for dinner, so I thought I'd just let somebody who's done it clue me in!

Unscrew the DUZ fastener at the rear or the seat, lift up at the rear of the seat slightly and pull it toward the rear to remove it.

Unscrew the phillips head screws (1 each side) holding the shroulds to the rear of the tank which are now visable with the seat removed.

Unscrew the phillips or hex screws (1 on each side) holding the the shroulds to the front of the tank.

Swing the shrouds down and away from the tank (no need for complete removal).

Undo the fuel lines at the petcocks.

Pull / slide the tank toward the rear until it comes off.

I guarantee I would have been looking for bolts and screws for hours trying to figure out how to get that thing off

Jeez... these tanks are on nice and snug.. 8O

I don't bother with the 4 screws that fasten the shrouds to the tank, I just use my 8mm nut driver on the two bolts that fasten the shrouds to the radiator and leave them connected to the tank.
