How to fix crank bolt issue?

Hey,

As I've decided to keep my '07 FS550E and race it this year (it has under 500kms so far) I've begun to be concerned about this loose crank bolt issue some people have mentioned.

Is there a step by step to check this?? I'm pretty green mechanically, can do my own oil changes and disassemble stuff no problem.. Just not sure where / what I need to do on this one..

Any help will be appreciated!

thanks

Ive not had the issue so might not be the best person to give advice on it

FWIW obviously you want to check if the bolt is tight 110N.m I think

if it moves before 110 you need to take it off and throurougly clean up and degrease the threads and the inside of the drive gear and the crank where the drive gear sits

check the nut can actually tighten properly onto the gear without fouling on the woodruff key or the shaft. also do a visual check for cracking in the keyway of the gear. lineaweaver suggests having that area shotpeened I think.

manual calls for loctite 2701 on the threads could use 680 on the gear/shaft maybe

I copied what JBS racing has done with a lock washer check his gallery for pics

HTH

Okay, this is going to sound really dumb.. Where do I find this bolt?

thanks

Hi tawheed,
I don't think a loose crank nut was an issue in 2007. Seems to me it was just a special bulletin in 2005.
(someone will be along shortly to tell me I'm wrong).
If it wasn't an issue, don't worry about it.
