How to convert '04 FS 450 to offroad/enduro?

Hi, looking at a used '04 FS 450, the owner says it needs a head gasket, no information on mileage.
I have no need for a supermoto type bike, but would love to be able to use this on forest service back roads.
Has anyone converted the FS to an enduro model?
I saw one website that showed differences between the three 2004 models of the 450 and while all 3 used the same shock part numbers front and rear, the FS had less suspension travel than the other 2 models.
Other than changing the wheels ( & sprocket & chain), what else would need to be done to make this an enduro type model? Can someone throw a guesstimate of cost? It may not be cost effective to try, but I'm thinking I could use a project. Thanks, Ddusty

First off, I would consider any bike advertised as 'needing a head gasket' to be essentially a basket case and should be priced accordingly. If all it needs is a head gasket, the owner should replace it and the engine should run like new.

I have a '04 fe550,and am polanning on doing the same, apart from the suspension, which I dont think should be a problem, (as long as you arent jumping minedumps), I am planning on a long range tank, and extra oil cooling, both of which I believe you need when doing "adventure " type trips where you average 200 - 500km's a day for 3 or 4 days? Apart from that, wider pegs and putting the lights / speedo cluster back on is where I' at to make it "street legal" again.
