what part(s) to clean? just the cap, or also the plastic thing after the pump?

Direct plastic fuel filter after pump straight into bin do the same with the fuel pump screen and get yourself a profill jobbie, search the fuel forum for 570 fuel filter x ref for a cheaper ducati part number.
It will be the injector itself if you are having fuel problems, this will be partiually blocked, clean or replace then put on the Profill filter and new Berg in-line filter
