How much difference 550 - 650

I currently own an 01 fe650. It's very well sorted and I use it for Offroad/Dualsport and not racing. This spring I sold my road plated husky 250 2t that I used for enduros requiring the road plate. Now, I'm left without a bike for these races unless I ride the 650. The 650 can be a bear in the tight s/t and quite a workout. I've come across a 550 that is well maintained and a very good price (an 08 to boot). I'm just wondering if the 550 is that much of a difference or in the tight stuff and worth the investment or if I should just stick with the 650.
I've read everything I can about the bikes and keep going back and forth on the idea.

Thanks in advance

IMO I find that the 650 is actually a tad easier to ride in the woods as it doesn't rev quite as quick as the 550. It has been over 4 years since I've ridden a 550 in the woods but I will tell you that I owned two and put over 10,000kms on them there and currently still own 2 650's and I've got about the same km's in the woods. I picked up a 1998 KDX 220 and absolutely love it in the woods. Good luck, and remember one thing, you can never have too many motorcycles.
