How Many KMs is too many for 05 550e?

I am looking at an Aussie 550e 2005 it has 4300kms

I know little about bergs and i dont know if this is way too many? Do these things do 10000kms before needing big rebuilds?

Do they have high maintenance requirements, eg new bearings and rings every 100 hours?

I was looking for an 04 525, until this caught my eye.

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

i would say that its reliable but its time for a rebuild. the engines are designed to run 200 hours and then a bit more for luck and from now on you're pushing your luck. i would think that $1,200AUS at a dealers would cover a full rebuild.

sorry if you think this is bad but you can buy it, run it and do it soon if you want to get a feel for it.

$ 2000.00 plus for a full rebuild .

let the ones with low low hours catch your eye , along with service history . i would choose pay a bit more initially so you don't pay a lot more soon after !

Does it look like the km's have been done hard? If it has only been ridden by a Granny to church on Sundays then it could still be quite OK, especially if the price is right.

But then that'd be one awesome Granny!!

My mate runs a trailbike safari business in WA's south & has ridden bergs for the last 4 years as his tour leader bike. Last one had done 195hrs & 9500 kms before an engine spruce-up before selling it & there was hardly a mark on the mains. He had a trouble free run on the bike which does average 400kms a week & ran motorex race synth since new. Biggest things to look for I think are bearing wear in wheels, headstem & heim. Other than that they're wickid bits of gear. :wink: good luck

I bought a 04 fe 550 with 60 hrs, 1900 kms on it about six months ago. Absolutely love it but cant comment on realiabilty as yet, is that the bike that is currently on ebay? I paid $6000 from a dealer for mine.
