How Do You Get A FE650 To Weigh Under 200 Pounds?

The reason I am asking this is that I leave for Iraq in two weeks and I can only take 200 pounds of luggage with me. Since my e-starter never worked right I guess I can start there.

When I was in Baghdad last month for a visit to see what I was getting into I found a great riding area (cleared of mines) down the street from the Al-Rasheed Hotel, just behind Uday’s indoor pool. The person I am replacing wants to put a nine hole golf course there but with a little help from Hawaii-Rider’s friends in the Engineer Corps you could have the best MX track in Iraq (and probably the only). And with a little work you could turn the walkways of the old Baghdad Zoo into one hell of a Supermoto track. Maybe someday but not in the year that I will be there.

I guess I will try to sneak away from the family for one more morning of riding before I head out. The good thing is if I break something it won’t bother me to wait a year for the replacement parts to arrive.

why don't you remove everything that can be posted on or purchased out there when you get there?

for instance would the coolant, oil, tyres, fuel etc be available there? why not post some of it to yourself.

i have a USAF friend who says that the secret number is 70lb's. post a parcel to yourself that weighs under 70lb's with USPO and you should find things work out.

if this is true the parcel of 70lbs and the rest of the bike of less than 200lb's should see you in.

i trust you've seen that it's brit giving you this reliable information!!!!!!

Now this is exactly what we need - more of you out there, with a proper attitude towards regeneration. And with your priorities so obviously round the right way, excellent :D :D :D

While risking to make the thread a political debate, why don't governments and interim leaders get it?

Give the population the infrastructure and permission to go and have lots of fun! Anybody trying to ruin it would be very unpopular :D :D :D

So, take Taffy's advice, take your bike to bits. You could also ask each and every service person you know take a piece in their luggage, with a promise of a ride as gratitude :D :D :D

Good luck and stay safe!
Simon

PS and best regards to HR!

If you did this, I think we (as loyal UHE members) should take it upon ourselves to help you in any way possible regarding spare parts. You break a chain, let us know. Blow a tire, let us know. Suck a valve into the motor, let us know.

Good luck sir! May your stay be brisk, may your berg be with you!

Send pictures (hmmm, is that a good idea?!!?)

Good luck Evin and have a safe trip. Unfortunately I don't think you will need the bike there anytime soon :(

One year wait time for parts is slightly over optimistic. Normal turn around time is 18 months. If you do not receive your parts in a year and a half you will need to reorder them as the antiquated old Husqvarna computer system will kick out the order.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the thoughts and recommendations. I found a Harley when I was in Kuwait but could not convince the Air Force to fly it to Baghdad. Even if I got it to Baghdad International Airport then I would have to get it to the Green Zone.

As soon as my gallery gets set up I will post some pictures from my last trip and more when I get overthere.

I got my gallery set up today and posted some pictures of the proposed MX track and finish line for the Motard course.
